On November 16, 2018 at 6.30 p.m., the Krakow Opera will host the premiere of the only opera by Ignacy Jan Paderewski, directed by Laco Adamik.
Due to the intense piano career of the outstanding instrumentalist, Manru was being written for 8 years. It is a story of unhappy love, which also outlines the subject of social differences and lack of tolerance. One of the main characters – Ulana – suffers from mother's rejection and the lack of acceptance of her marriage to Gypsy Manru. She is also insecure of her husband's love, in whom the longing for a "Gypsy" lifestyle and the old feeling for Gipsy Azya slowly begin to rise.
During the premiere performance, outstanding soloists will perform with the accompaniment of the Krakow Opera Choir and Orchestra under the direction of Tomasz Tokarczyk. The performance is co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund. The event is held under the patronage of the PWM Edition as part of the TUTTI.pl project promoting performances of Polish music.
The Kraków Opera also invites you to participate in the competition for the best review of Manru performance.
