Orchestra, ballet, choir and soloists of the Grand Theater in Łódź under Łukasz Borowicz will premiere The Golden Fleece (La Toison d'Or) by Aleksander Tansman on December 2, 2016.

Tansman’s opera buffa in 3 acts, composed in 1938, has been considered lost. Rediscovered, it was reconstructed and staged by the Tansman Festival in cooperation with the Grand Theater in Łódź. The libretto, written by the composer’s friend Salvador de Madariaga, was based on the Greek myth about a wonderful ram with a golden fleece, who helps the children of King Adamas during the voyage of the Argonauts. It treats the myth freely, though, running away from rationalism and giving vent to imagination and delusions that create a certain theatre of the absurd.
