The Polish premiere of Paweł Szymański's composition commissioned by the BBC will take place on January 6, 2019 at 7.00 p.m. at the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic in Szczecin.
British edition of Polish music – this is a brief introduction to the evening's programme, featuring the BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Michał Nesterowicz. The concert will start with the "Polonia" Symphony Prelude, Op. 76 by Edward Elgar. Written in 1915 at the request of the conductor Emil Młynarski, the piece is a unique tribute to Polish music. The repertoire will also include music by Polish composers of three different generations: Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 17 by Ignacy Jan Paderewski in the interpretation of Janina Fialkowska, Canadian pianist with Polish roots, Symphony No. 1 by Witold Lutosławski, and a new piece commissioned by the BBC from Paweł Szymański, one of the best-known contemporary Polish composers.
