Vienna | Premiere of 'The Ancient Night' by Wojciech Chałupka in the Golden Hall of Musikverein
On the 30th of April 2022 at 7.30 p.m. a premiere of a composition The Ancient Night for soprano saxophone, accordion and symphony orchestra by Wojciech Chałupka - a third-year student in composition class of Prof. Dariusz Przybylski at the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music will take place in the legendary Golden Hall of Vienna Musikverein.
The title of the piece refers to the pagan festival of Kupala Night. On that night of the summer solstice rituals were performed to worship fire, water, sun, moon, fertility and love. The five parts of The Ancient Night allude to them.
The piece was commissioned by Duo Aliad composed of Polish saxophonist Michał Knot and the Serbian accordionist Bogdan Laketic. The ensemble and the Wiener Jeunesse Orchestra conducted by Herbert Böck will present the composition to the audience for the first time. The artists will also perform works by Franz Schubert and Igor Stravinsky.
