Premiere of the latest production of King Roger by Karol Szymanowski directed by Mariusz Treliński will take place on the stage of the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera on December 2, 2018 at 6.00 p.m.
The first performance of the opera to the libretto of composer's cousin Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz took place at the Teatr Wielki in Warsaw in 1926. In Warsaw, Wrocław, St. Petersburg and Edinburgh, the spectacle was already staged by Mariusz Treliński. After many years, he returns to King Roger in a new staging based on the dramaturgy of Piotr Gruszczyński. He follows the fascination with antiquity and the oriental world, reflected in Szymanowski's expressive music. Treliński builds the world in the tasteful images of the reliable Boris Kudlička, he surprises and precipitates the viewer from what is predictable. The work will be performed by the Choir and Orchestra of the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera directed by Grzegorz Nowak. Łukasz Goliński will play the lead role.
