Carnival Concert at Warsaw Philharmonic – live online streaming

logoThe Warsaw Philharmonic invites you on 15 January 2021 at 7.30 p.m. to an online carnival concert. It will be an event postponed from 8-9 January, which will take place without the audience.

2021 marks the 110th birthday and 30th death anniversary of Stefan Kisielewski – a composer and writer who was remembered by many generations of Poles as an outstanding political journalist, expressing his opposition to the absurdities of the communist system in allusions, metaphors and language games. Kisielewski, a graduate of the Warsaw Conservatory, was also the author of many chamber and symphonic works, in which he expressed his taste for neoclassical music – simple in form, sometimes of sharp harmony, permeated with musical humor. This is what Little Overture from 1953 is like.

Michał Spisak was one of the most ardent representatives of neoclassicism, a style that in the first half of the 20th century was a reaction to the overly emotional nature of romantic music. From the time of his studies in the 1930s, the artist lived in Paris, but he maintained relations with Poland. A minor example of Spisak's musical preferences are Three Miniatures for Small Orchestra from 1949. The titles of the subsequent miniatures are: Gavotte, Arietta and March.

During the concert, we will also hear Theme with Variations, Op. 42 by Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Variations on a Rococo Theme in A major, Op. 33 for cello and orchestra and Seasons, Op. 37a by Piotr Tchaikovsky as well as two quadrilles by Johann Strauss (son) – Fledermaus-Quadrille, Op. 363 and Maskenball-Quadrille, Op. The 272. The Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra will be conducted by Maciej Tomasiewicz, with cellist Karolina Jaroszewska-Rajewska performing as a soloist.
