Gdańsk | New faces of tradition. World premieres of works for suka and vocal octet

POLMICThree new compositions for a suka and a vocal octet, commissioned from Polish, Latvian and Serbian composers will be performed on the 16th July, 2022 at 20.00 at the Center of St. John in Gdańsk. Maria Pomianowska, specializing in playing instruments from the fiddle family, will perform at the concert led by the conductor Karol Kisiel.

Suka biłgorajska is a traditional Polish folk instrument, reconstructed on the initiative of Maria Pomianowska and accompanying the artist in concert halls all over the world. New compositions by Anna Rocławska-Musiałczyk (Poland), Aleksandra Vrebalov (Serbia) and Uģis Prauliņš (Latvia) will be the first contemporary pieces composed for this instrument, therefore the event initiators hope to discover new technical and sound possibilities of the suka.

Co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, from the Culture Promotion Fund, as part of the 'Composers' Commissions' programme implemented by the National Institute of Music and Dance.
