Inter-Conference "Musica Tertii Millenii" in Wrocław
The Composition Institute of the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław invites you to participate in the Inter-Conference "Musica Tertii Millenii," which will take place on April 9-10, 2025, at the Wrocław Academy. The event is organized as part of the project "Quo vadis, musica? – Between Mission and Obligation in the Context of the Third Millennium," co-funded by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund. The deadline for submitting active participation applications is February 9, 2025.
Active participation in the "Inter-conference" (presentations) is primarily addressed to composers, multimedia artists, creators seeking new forms of expression; performers, music theorists, musicologists, humanists, sociologists; and anyone interested in exploring issues related to music creation after the year 2000.
We live in times of great transformations that touch nearly every sphere of human life, significantly impacting science and art. Globalization and technological advancement have enabled unprecedented cultural exchange, while also raising fundamental questions about the identity of a work of art. Contemporary music combines traditional elements of the composer's craft with modern means of expression, creating a multi-dimensional and previously unknown artistic experience.
One of the goals of the "Inter-conference" will be an attempt to outline the new trends that have emerged in the art and science of the 21st century, as well as the social resonance of these achievements. In a broad range of considerations, the starting point and dominant focus will be musical art, with particular attention to contemporary domestic creation.
The "Musica Tertii Millenii" project is an attempt to break the conventions of a traditional academic conference, suggesting a departure from typical papers in favor of non-standard forms of expression. Presentations may include original ways of presenting one's own or others' work, and experimental forms of presentations are encouraged, including those that engage the audience, and even performances of an artistic provocation. Proposed thematic areas include:
- New genes in contemporary creation
- Art in the age of AI
- The identity of the composer in the modern world
- Between intuition and rationality
- Parallel currents of reality
- Loops of mutual inspiration
- Creative prophecy vs. scientific reality
- "What is music?" (continuation of the dialogue between Dahlhaus and Eggebrecht)
- New relationships between composer and performer
- Contemporary music for young listeners.
The "Inter-conference" will be opened by a keynote lecture by the honorary guest, Dr. Marcin Trzęsiok, Professor at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice.
The event will be accompanied by artistic events of a multi-, inter- and trans-media nature, presented in various spaces of the Wrocław Academy of Music and at the facilities of associated institutions. Their organization will be undertaken by members of units closely collaborating with the Composition Institute: the Department of New Media with the Computer Composition Studio, the Department of Ear Training and Musical Imagination, the Department of Theatre and Film Music, the Scientific-Artistic Circle of Composition and Music Theory, and the Scientific-Artistic Circle of New Media.
Applications should include an abstract in Polish (up to 300 words) and a biography (up to 150 words). Presentations should last approximately 20 minutes.
The registration fee for active participation is 300 PLN. Passive participation is free of charge. Active participants will be provided with lunch on April 9-10, 2025. The organizers do not provide accommodation.
