The Polish Composers' Union and the Polish Music Publishing House, both of which are celebrating anniversaries in 2025, invite you to the first event of this year as part of the "Meetings at the Composers’" cycle. The special guests will be the editors of the three-volume collection of Roman Palester’s writings. The event will take place on February 28 at 5:00 PM at the premises of the Polish Composers' Union (Rynek Starego Miasta 27, Warsaw), and the discussion will be led by the President of the Polish Composers' Union, Mieczysław Kominek. Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase one-of-a-kind books with the author's autograph.
“The Writings of Roman Palester” is a three-volume collection of sharp and uncompromising commentary by the composer and long-time editor of cultural broadcasts at Radio Free Europe, where music intersects with the visual arts and literature. Palester's insightful gaze and elegant pen make these writings books to which one can constantly return. They allow contemporary readers to immerse themselves in the realities of a past era. The collection is both enjoyable and thought-provoking, encouraging readers to view art through the eyes of a composer. Most of the texts in these extensive volumes are radio commentaries by Palester, broadcast on the waves of Radio Free Europe. Each topic is treated comprehensively, with cultural and historical contexts explained.
The collection was created through the immense effort of a team of distinguished specialists who ensured the academic rigor of the work, carefully selecting and organizing Palester’s texts. The team included Violetta Wejs-Milewska, Beata Bolesławska-Lewandowska, Iwona Lindstedt, Artur Zaguła and Lech Dzierżanowski.
This looks like a wonderful opportunity for anyone interested in Roman Palester’s work or in Polish music history.
