On the eve of the anniversary of Witold Lutosławski's birth, on January 24, 2025, at 7:00 PM, Christoph Eschenbach and the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic will present two undisputed masterpieces to the audience. The concert will feature music by the patron of the National Forum of Music and Antonín Dvořák, whose works share a light and cheerful mood.
The title of Lutosławski’s cycle of nine songs for soprano and orchestra, Chantefleurs et chantefables, can be translated as Songflowers and Songfables. It was created under the influence of reading humorous poems by the French surrealist poet Robert Desnos. Desnos wrote these poems for the children of his friends, with plants and animals as the main characters.
The second part of the evening will feature the romantic Symphony No. 8 in G major, Op. 88 by Antonín Dvořák, one of the most popular works in his oeuvre, which also shows a clear inspiration from Czech folk music.
