Milena Pioruńska - the winner of the Young Musician of the Year Competition 2022!

On the 2nd of May 2022 during a gala at the Warsaw Philharmonic five finalists of this year's edition of the Young Musician of the Year competition organized by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, TVP Kultura and the National Institute of Music and Dance presented themselves. The winner will represent Poland in July at the jubilee 20th Eurovision Competition for Young Musicians in Montpellier, France.

The event is a nationwide competition organized every two years and its aim is to promote the best young classical musicians. It is a major media event that promotes the most talented students of secondary music schools and encourages young people to improve their musical skills.

Gdańsk | Laboratory of New Sacred Music Festival

Between the 6th and 7th of May 2022 in the Church of St. Catherine in Gdańsk the Laboratory of New Sacred Music Festival 2022 organized by the Polish Chamber Choir will take place. Thanks to the ‘Composing Commissions’ programme implemented by the National Institute of Music and Dance, a piece Regina Coeli of Aleksandra Chmielewska will be performed for the first time.

On the first day of the Festival Stanisław Moryto's Carmina Crucis to the words of 14 poems by Ernest Bryl from the Golgota Jasnogórska volume will be performed. In the first part of the concert on the 7th of May, the Polish Chamber Choir conducted by Jan Łukaszewski will perform a selection of a cappella pieces by Andrzej Koszewski, who will be celebrating his 100th birthday this year. In the second part of the concert a piece Regina Coeli by Aleksandra Chmielewska for choir, two violins, viola, percussion and oboe will be performed. The piece was commissioned by the Festival.

Opole | Metropolis Piano Quartet

On the 6th of May 2022 at 7.00 p.m. the Metropolis Piano Quartet will perform at the Opole Philharmonic.

Four friends associated with the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice and the Academy of Music in Katowice have been linked by their love of chamber music and the need to take up new, artistic challenges. In their interpretation, we will hear works by Alexander Tansman and Johannes Brahms.

Suite-Divertissement for piano quartet of Aleksander Tansman and his Piano Quartet No. 1 in G minor, Op. 2 will be performed at the concert.

Pabianice, Wiaderno and Krośniewice | 'With classics through Poland': Krzysztof Jakowicz and Robert Morawski

The next three concerts from the series ‘With classics through Poland’ will be held on the 6th of May at 6.00 p.m. at the Zbigniew Herbert Municipal Cultural Center in Pabianice, on the 7th of May 7 at 5.00 p.m. at the Municipal Cultural Center in Wiaderna and on the 8th of May 2022 at 7.00 p.m. at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Krośniewice. Violinist Krzysztof Jakowicz and pianist Robert Morawski will perform.

The aim of the project, which began in the second half of 2019, is to reach smaller centers, cities, towns and villages with music programmes performed by recognized Polish artists: to those audiences who have difficult access to direct contact with classical music. The project ‘With classics through Poland’ is an initiative organized by the Polish Music Management operating as part of the National Institute of Music and Dance with the support of Prof. Piotr Gliński, the Minister of Culture and National Heritage.

During the upcoming concerts Pieść Roxany (Roxana's Song) from Karol Szymanowski's King Roger opera, Pieśń polska (Polish Song), Dudziarz (Piper), Obertas and Polonez koncertowy (Concert Polonaise) by Henryk Wieniawski as well as works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Fritz Kreisler, Astor Piazzolla and Pablo de Sarasate will be presented to the audience.

Warsaw | Honorary Doctorate of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music awarded to Maestro Piotr Paleczny

The world-famous pianist - Maestro Piotr Paleczny will receive an honorary doctorate from the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music. The ceremony will take place on the 5th of May 2022 at 12.00 in the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music concert hall at Okólnik 2.

Laudation will be given by Maestro Krystian Zimerman and the dean of the Faculty of Instrumental Studies at the University, Prof. Tomasz Strahl. A performance of Professor Paleczny's student, the winner of the 2nd prize in the last Chopin Competition, Kyōhei Sorita will also take place during the event.

Programme of the concert will include Fryderyk Chopin’s Largo in E flat Major ‘Boże, coś Polskę’ Op. posth, Rondo à la Mazur in F Major Op. 5 and Polonaise in A flat Major Op. 53.

Łódź | 200 years of Polish Romanticism and 3rd of May National Holiday!

Julia Kociuban's piano recital on the occasion of the Year of Polish Romanticism and the Third of May National Day will take place on the 3rd of May 3 2022 at the Łódź Philharmonic. The concert will be available on the streaming portal www.drzwidokultury.pl.

The Polonaise is the most important and oldest Polish dance with a rich history. In the era of Romanticism polonaises were composed, among others, by Józef Elsner, Karol Kurpiński, Michał Kleofas Ogiński, Maria Szymanowska and above all by Fryderyk Chopin, who created not only stylized dances, but also - especially in the last period of his work - dance poems in the form of a polonaise.

Warsaw | Final of the Young Musician of the Year 2022 competition on the 2nd of May!

On the 2nd of May At 20.00 in the Warsaw Philharmonic, the final of the Young Musician of the Year 2022 competition will be held. During the ceremony the best young musician playing a classical instrument will be selected. The winner will represent Poland at the jubilee 20th Eurovision Competition for Young Musicians in Montpellier, France, in July 2022.

This year's edition is unique because it will take place on the stage of the National Philharmonic for the first time, and secondly - live and without pandemic restrictions. Young artists will be accompanied by the Polish Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra conducted by Marek Wroniszewski.

The gala concert will feature: violinist Milena Pioruńska (M. Karłowicz Secondary Music School in Poznań), oboist Małgorzata Cieszko (St. Moniuszko State Music School Complex in Bielsko-Biała), accordionist Józef Wajdzik (Music School Complex in Poznań), clarinettist Paweł Libront (the A. Rubinstein State Music School Complex in Bydgoszcz) and pianist Krzysztof Wierciński (Z. Brzewski Secondary Music School Complex of State Music Schools No. 1 in Warsaw).

The co-organizers of this year's edition of the Young Musician of the Year competition are the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage together with the National Institute of Music and Dance and TVP Kultura. The live concert will be broadcast by TVP Kultura and rebroadcast by TVP 1.

Lusławice | Spring Festival De Natura Sonoris

Between the 1st and 3rd of May 2022 De Natura Sonoris Festival of the Year will be held in Lusławice. The event refers to the work, ideas and passions of Krzysztof Penderecki.

The Silesian Quartet and Jan Kotula, double bass player will perform the original version of the Joanna Wnuk-Nazarowa Quintet as well as quartets of Eugeniusz Knapik and Krzysztof Penderecki. Iwona Hossa and Robert Marat will present songs by Szymanowski, Dvořak, Penderecki, Ogiński, Gablenz and Żeleński. A recital of Aimi Kobayashi (the winner of the 4th Prize at the 18th Fryderyk Chopin International Piano Competition will also take place.

Gdańsk | 9th International Scientific Conference ‘Piano Music’

Between the 5th and 6th of May 2022 Music Theory in co-operation with Piano Departments of the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk will organize the 19th International Scientific Conference ‘Piano Music’.

The debate will revolve around a wide range of topics like performance, interpretation, creative, analytical and cultural issues centered around piano music.

Nearly 40 speakers confirmed their participation in the Conference. The Honorary Chairperson of the Scientific Committee is Prof. Irena Poniatowska (The Fryderyk Chopin Institute).

A monographic concert devoted to Joanna Bruzdowicz will take place on the 5th of May at 7 p.m. Composer’s works will be presented by the pianist Tomasz Jocz.
