"Cantata on Poland’s Baptism" by Aleksander Kościów - premiere

kNew work by Aleksander Kościów will have its premiere on November 10, 2016 at the Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio of Polish Radio in Warsaw.

The work, commissioned by the Polish Radio Choir on the occasion of the 1050th anniversary of Poland’s baptism, will be performed by the Warsaw Cellonet Group, joined by pianist Robert Morawski, Sinfonia Varsovia Chamber Ensemble and Polish Radio Choir under Szymon Wyrzykowski.

Michail Jurowski returns to conduct Polish Orchestra Sinfonia Iuventus

SI Mezzosoprano Irina Papenbrock and the Polish Orchestra Sinfonia Iuventus under the baton of Michail Jurowski will perform works by Beethoven and Wagner on November 19, 2016 at the Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio of Polish Radio in Warsaw.

Michail Jurowski, principal guest conductor of the Polish Orchestra Sinfonia Iuventus and a member of its Artistic Council, has conducted the world’s famous orchestras. He has cooperated (among others) with the Semperoper in Dresden, Komische Oper, Deutsche Oper and Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester in Berlin, Nordwestdeutsche and Norddeutsche Philharmonie, Volkstheater in Rostock, the Opera in Leipzig, Tonkünstler-Orchester in Zurich and WDR Rundfunkorchester in Cologne. In 2001, he received a Grammy nomination for the recordings of orchestral music by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. One of the leading interpreters of Shostakovich’s music, he was awarded the International Shostakovich Prize by the "Shostakovich Gohrisch" Foundation.

Siedemnaście koncertów w jedenastu miastach w ramach 11. Festiwalu Gorczyckiego

GGGJedenasty festiwal – jedenaście miast, siedemnaście koncertów z udziałem znakomitości polskiej i światowej sceny muzycznej. Duża dawka muzyki polskiej oraz, jubileuszowo, arcydzieła Mozarta. Już 18 listopada 2016 roku rusza najważniejszy festiwal muzyczny na Śląsku – Międzynarodowy Festiwal im. G. G. Gorczyckiego.

Tegoroczny Festiwal zostanie oficjalnie zainaugurowany 19 listopada w Chorzowie i potrwa do 4 grudnia. W ciągu dwóch tygodni podczas 17 koncertów w 11 miastach wystąpi plejada znakomitych artystów z kraju i ze świata, wśród których znaleźli się Gabrieli Players, Le Parlement de Musique, Paul McCreesh, Martin Gester, Janusz Wawrowski, Eugénie Warnier, Cracow Singers, Piotr Pławner, Paul Esswood, Marcin Wyrostek, Renata Pokupić, a także stali bywalcy, a zarazem ulubieńcy festiwalowej publiczności – Capella Cracoviensis, Sinfonietta Cracovia, Aukso, Narodowa Orkiestra Symfoniczna Polskiego Radia czy Camerata Silesia.

Co charakterystyczne dla Festiwalu, wielu zagranicznych gości (Paul Esswood, Le Parlement Musique czy Martin Gester) zaprezentuje muzykę polską na czele z dziełami Grzegorza Gerwazego Gorczyckiego, która od lat – niezmiennie – stanowi trzon festiwalowego programu. Nie zabraknie przy tym jednak arcydzieł literatury światowej na czele z kompozycjami W.A. Mozarta – w 260. rocznicę urodzin i 225. rocznicę śmierci.

Festiwalowi towarzyszyć będzie cykl koncertów charytatywnych „Śladami Gorczyckiego” odbywających się w Szpitalu Chirurgii Urazowej w Piekarach Śląskich.

"Misterium" by Krzesimir Dębski - premiere

Misterium New work by Krzesimir Dębski will have its premiere on November 18, 2016 at the St. Mary’s Basilica in Gdańsk.

The work was composed to commemorate the 1050 anniversary of Poland’s baptism. In 966, the pagan ruler of the Polans tribe, Mieszko I, was baptized and converted to Christianity. The Christianization restructured the state’s power elite by downgrading traditional tribal elders and pagan priests and upgrading incoming clergy who helped education, culture, and diplomacy to flourish in Poland.

Misterium will be premiered by the Polish Chamber Choir under Jan Łukaszewski and guest soloists - Krzesimir Dębski (violin, II conductor), Krzysztof Ścierański (bass guitar), Bogusław Grabowski (organ), Norik Minasyan (duduk), Barbara Merdinger (mandolin) and Michał Górczyński (clarinet).

"Silesian Quartet and Its Guests" - 24th edition

2016 edition of the International Chamber Music Festival "Silesian Quartet and Its Guests" will be held between November 20 and December 3 at the Chamber Hall of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice.

KS The central theme of this year’s event that consists of 5 concerts is Elements. The programme features works by the composers of so-called "Generation ‘51" (Andrzej Krzanowski, Eugeniusz Knapik and Aleksander Lasoń), including premiere of String Quartet No. 5 by Lasoń, as well as chamber version of La création du monde by Darius Milhaud, String Quartet No. 4 by Philip Glass, Danse sacrée et danse profane by Claude Debussy, Piano Quintet by Alfred Schnittke, and compositions by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Joseph Haydn, Luigi Boccherini and Franz Schubert.

"Discovering Paderewski" Festival - 2016 edition

op5th edition of the International Festival "Discovering Paderewski" will be held between November 11 and 14, 2016 in Lviv.

The event is aimed at promoting Polish culture and musical repertoire. The idea of creating an artistic event associated with the figure of Ignacy Jan Paderewski - pianist, composer, statesman and philanthropist, serves as a pretext for a fruitful cultural enrichment and strengthening of cooperation between Poland and Ukraine.

The programme includes compositions by Karol Szymanowski, Krzesimir Dębski, Borys Latoszyński, as well as opera Manru by Ignacy Jan Paderewski (conducted by Jerzy Maksymiuk) and Leszek Możdżer’s jazz impressions on music by Paderewski and Fryderyk Chopin.

4th "Słuchalnia" Festival in Toruń

S4th International Festival "Słuchalnia - Musical Signs of Time" will be held on November 25-26, 2016 at the Centre of Contemporary Art in Toruń.

The event aims at presenting 21st-century music written by Polish and foreign composers. This year, 4 new pieces will be premiered - Metaphysical Graffiti for amplified prepared accordion by Dominik Karski (written for accordionist Ryszard Lubieniecki), Sequenza II. Starter for harpsichord and computer by Cezary Duchnowski (written for harpsichordist Gośka Isphording), Accordion GO for accordion, live electronics, video and audio layer by Jacek Sotomski (written for accordionist Rafał Łuc) and Stanie się (It will Happen) for flute, violin and accordion by Piotr Bednarczyk (written for Layers Trio).

The Festival is co-financed by the City of Toruń and Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship.

Final concert of the 4th National Composition Competition Opus 966

v The results of the 4th edition of the National Composition Competition Opus 966 will be announced during the concert held on November 5, 2016 at the St. Anthony of Padua Church at Przemysł Hill in Poznań.

The laureates of the competition will be selected by the jury comprising composers Paweł Łukaszewski (chairman), Mikołaj Górecki and Artur Kroschel. The premiere performance of the award-winning compositions will be presented by the Poznań Chamber Choir conducted by Bartosz Michałowski.

Admission free.
