11th Grzegorz Fitelberg International Competition for Conductors

Grzegorz Fitelberg International Competition for Conductors is one of the most important Polish performance competitions, since 1982 belonging to the World Federation of International Music Competitions based in Geneva. It is intended for artists under the age of 39.

The submitted applications will be assessed by the Qualifying Committee consisting of distinguished conductors and musicians, who will qualify no more than 50 Competition Participants (hereinafter referred to as Participants) from the submitted applications and will select no more than 10 reserve Participants of the Competition.

Wrocław | Final concert of the 10th International Cello Academy

The International Cello Academy is one of the few events in Europe aimed at cellists from all over the world. It takes the form of a festival, but it has primarily an educational function. The final concert of the 10th International Cello Academy will take place at the National Forum of Music on the 26th of July, 2023 at 7.00 p.m., and the premiere of Artur Zagajewski's piece – [hyphen] for cello quartet will be presented.

The originator and organizer of the International Cello Academy is the Polish Cello Quartet. It is Tomasz Daroch, Wojciech Fudala, Krzysztof Karpeta and Adam Krzeszowiec who will perform most of the works. There will also be cellists Gary Hoffman, Tomáš Jamník and harpist Carlos Roberto Peña Montoya as soloists, and the Orchestra of the International Cello Academy.

The 4th Wigrosfera Festival is a sound response to the natural human need to commune with nature and culture. This is an extraordinary event, one of a kind, combining high culture with the beauty and tourist values ​​of the Suwałki Region. The fourth edition of the festival will take place on the 14th and 15th of July, 2023 in the Wigry National Park and in Suwałki. The star of the festival will be the world-renowned violinist and composer Adam Bałdych.

The main stage will be located on the PTTK beach in Stary Folwark overlooking one of the most beautiful Polish lakes - Wigry. In the city of Suwałki, concerts will be held in the concert hall of the Suwałki Cultural Centre.

Gdańsk, Sopot | Baltic Opera Festival

BalticOperaF 23The 1st Baltic Opera Festival, whose originator and co-founder is the outstanding Polish bass-baritone Tomasz Konieczny, will take place on July 14-17, 2023 on the stage of the Baltic Opera in Gdańsk and Forest Opera in Sopot.

Performances presented at the Baltic Opera Festival are premiere productions of well-known titles. The Flying Dutchman - a three-act romantic opera by Richard Wagner - will be staged on the stage of the Forest Opera, in excellent acoustic conditions created by nature. The performance will be staged by the Baltic Opera in Gdańsk with the participation of its orchestra and choir, as well as world-class artists invited to cooperate, such as Andrzej Dobber, Małgorzata Walewska, Boris Kudlička and maestro Marek Janowski.

Wigry, Suwałki | 5th Festival of Chamber and Organ Music 'Kamedulskie Wigry'

Eight summer concerts are ahead of us as part of the 5th Festival of Chamber and Organ Music 'Kamedulskie Wigry'. A rich repertoire - from the works of the Middle Ages to the music of the 21st century - will be presented on July 8 - August 27, 2023 in the historic Post-Camaldolese Monastery in Wigry and in the Church of St. Peter and Paul in Suwałki. Admission to all concerts is free.

The organizer of the event is the JAX Association.

Winners of the 3rd International Polish Music Competition

On the 8th of July, 2023, the results of the 3rd International Polish Music Competition at the Podkarpacie Philharmonic were announced. In each of the two categories of the Competition, separately in the ‘Pianists’ category and separately in the ‘Chamber Ensembles’ category, six main prizes with a total sum of EUR 100,000 were awarded.

In the ‘Pianists’ category: 6th prize went to Tomasz Zając (Poland), 5th prize - Danylo Saienko (Ukraine), 4th prize - Linda Lee (South Korea / USA), 3rd prize - Kiryl Keduk (Poland), 2nd prize - Jan Wachowski (Poland), 1st prize - Georgi Vasilev (Bulgaria).

In the ‘Chamber Ensembles’ category: 6th prize was awarded to Metropolis Piano Quartet (Poland), 5th prize - Silesian Wind Quintet (Poland), 4th prize - Shoven Quartet (Poland), 3rd prize - Quintessence quintet (Poland), 2nd prize - Reverie Piano Duo (Poland) and 1st prize - Aka Duo (Japan).

In the ‘Chamber ensembles’ category, the jury also awarded two honorable mentions to the ensembles Aries Duo (Poland) and Diverso String Quartet (Poland).

In 2023, the award of EUR 1,000 was awarded to performances of works by two Polish composers.

In the ‘Pianists’ category, the statutory special prize for the best performance of Antoni Stolpe's work went to Kiryl Keduk (Poland). In the ‘Chamber Ensembles’ category, the special prize for the best performance of Antoni Szałowski's work went to Quintessence (Poland).

Warsaw | 2nd AżTak Festival

AzTakFestiwal 23The theme of the second Aż-Tak festival, which will take place on July 6-8, 2023, is ‘Home’. Just a few months ago, a social cultural institution – Space of Contemporary Music Hashtag Lab – inaugurated its activities in a new premises, which became a home for contemporary music in Warsaw. Hashtag Ensemble will play on the summer stage and inside the modernist building at Barska 29, as well as in the city space.

On the first day of the festival, photos taken with pinhole cameras constructed under the direction of Kacper Bartczak will be presented. The photographs that share the main theme of this year's edition will be used as graphic scores by the Hashtag Ensemble.

The second day of the festival will bring the music of the house ‘à rebours’, the house of evil where we experience our deepest fears. The performative concert called ‘Shiver’ will be filled with works by Nina Fukuoka, which are a study of fear.
On the 8th of July, there will be a sound walk ‘You lead’ for children with guardians and dogs.

Elbląg Music Masterclass

POLMICThe official inauguration of the largest music courses in northern Poland will take place on the 2nd of July at the Old Town Hall in Elbląg. During the Master Chamber Concert lecturers of the Elbląg Music Masterclass will perform: Mariusz Patyra, Marek Czech, Marcel Markowski, Krzysztof Meisinger, Karolina Nowotczyńska, Igor Petrushevski, Radosław Kurek and Bogna Czerwińska-Szymula. We will also hear chamber music interpreted by them on the 6th of July.

On the 4th of July, special guests from abroad will appear on the stage of the Town Hall: the Hungarian pianist Marton Kiss and the Korean cellist Bokyung Hong. They will also be joined by the director of the Elbląg Chamber Orchestra, Karolina Nowotczyńska.

On the 7th of July, in the Mjazzga Music Club, a special concert of the Elbląg Music Masterclass ‘Future Etno’, will take place. Michał Pękosz will play rim drums, handpads and percussion instruments, Tomasz Orszulak guitar and Katarzyna Szetela-Pękosz will sing.

On the 8th of July, violinist Mateusz Smoczyński and cellist Stephan Braun will present songs from their album Keep on Turnin'.

Rzeszów | Finalists of the 3rd International Competition of Polish Music announced!

The jury of the 3rd International Competition of Polish Music in the ‘Pianists’ and ‘Chamber Ensembles’ categories, after hearing all the participants of the second stage on the 6th of July, 2023, qualified 6 pianists and 8 ensembles to the final stage.

The final auditions of the competition will take place at the Podkarpacie Philharmonic in Rzeszów on July 7-8. The pianists will be accompanied by an orchestra conducted by Łukasz Borowicz and Paweł Przytocki.

Admission to the final auditions is ticketed.

The competition is organized by the National Institute of Music and Dance in cooperation with the Podkarpacie Philharmonic in Rzeszów, financed by the Minister of Culture of National Heritage and the resources of the Marshal of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship
