3rd Ignacy Jan Paderewski International Festival

3rd Ignacy Jan Paderewski International Festival, held on the 156th anniversary of its patron’s birthday, will take place in Warsaw between November 5 and 11, 2016 in Warsaw.

The programme includes symphonic, chamber and jazz concerts, as well as discussion panels, film screenings, and master classes. The official opening of the Festival, organized by the "Ave-Arte" Foundation, will feature Fantasia in G sharp minor, Op. 19 by Ignacy Jan Paderewski, Ave verum corpus K. 618 and Coronation Mass in C major K. 317 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and rarely performed Piano Concerto in C minor, Op. 9 by Teodor Leteszycki (the latter of which will be played by Hubert Rutkowski on composer’s Bösendorfer piano produced in 1882).

Massimiliano Caldi conducts Sinfonietta Cracovia

p Silesian Trio and Sinfonietta Cracovia under Massimiliano Caldi will give a concert on November 4, 2016 at the Krakow Cloth Hall.

The programme includes Screams by Paweł Mykietyn, Ukiyo-e by Marcel Chyrzyński, Serenade in C major, Op.48 for string orchestra by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, as well as Trio concerto by Mikołaj Górecki, which will be presented by Silesian Trio (Joanna Domańska - piano, Roman Widaszek - clarinet and Tadeusz Tomaszewski - horn). The musicians will be conducted by charismatic Italian artist Massimiliano Caldi - winner of the Grzegorz Fitelberg International Conducting Competition in 1990.

Jarosław Siwiński zastąpił na stanowisku dyrektora festiwalu Warszawskie Spotkania Muzyczne Władysława Słowińskiego - pomysłodawcę, twórcę i dyrektora Festiwalu od początku jego istnienia. Władysław Słowiński zgodził się pełnić funkcję dyrektora honorowego.

Warszawskie Spotkania Muzyczne „muzyka dawna – muzyka nowa” to doroczny festiwal organizowany przez Oddział Warszawski Związku Kompozytorów Polskich od 1986 roku. To jeden z najważniejszych festiwali prezentujących jednocześnie muzykę współczesną i muzykę dawnych epok. Dzięki takiej formule wielu miłośników muzyki dawnej może, niejako przy okazji, poznać twórczość współczesną i przekonać się, że ona wcale „nie gryzie”. Festiwal od lat szczyci się udziałem znakomitych wykonawców i ciekawym doborem repertuaru, a z roku na rok „nabiera tempa” i trafia do gustu coraz większej liczby słuchaczy.

Prize-winners of the Wieniawski Competition perform in Gdańsk

pPolish Baltic Philharmonic will host a concert of prize-winners of the 15th International Henryk Wienawski Competition on November 4, 2016.

The programme includes 3 violin concertos interpreted by 3 laureates of this year’s Competition – Veriko Tchumburidze, representing Georgia and Turkey (1st prize), will perform Violin Concerto No. 1 in A minor, Op. 77 by Dmitri Schostakovich, Bomsori Kim from South Korea (2nd prize ex aequo) will present Violin Concerto No. 2 in D minor, Op. 22 by Henryk Wieniawski, while Polish violinist Maria Włoszczowska (6th prize) will play Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 77 by Johannes Brahms.

The soloists will be accompanied by the Polish Baltic Philharmonic Orchestra under Mirosław Jacek Błaszczyk.

Musical Tribute to Ignacy Jan Paderewski

A special concert, organized on the occasion of Ignacy Jan Paderewski’s 156th birth anniversary, will be held on October 30, 2016 at 5.00 pm in Kąśna Dolna.

The concert will complete the project which involved 6 artistic events of various types. It will take place in the Paderewski Manor and feature compositions by Ignacy Jan Paderewski, Fryderyk Chopin, Giuseppe Verdi and Gaetano Donizetti, presented by soprano Hanna Samson and pianist Maria Korecka-Soszkowska.

The project is co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.

Admission free.

The organizers provide a bus transportation (meeting point at the Theatre in Tarnów at 3.30 pm; reserving a seat is required at: +48 14 621 09 21).

Kwartludium Premieres New Composition by Tadeusz Wielecki

New work Multiple Image by Tadeusz Wielecki will be premiered by Kwartludium on October 28, 2016 in the Chamber Hall of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice.

The concert is a part of the 17th edition of the Silesian Days of Contemporary Music. The ensemble will also perform new work on November 15 at the Old Town Hall in Gdańsk (2nd Festival of Contemporary Music "New Waves") and December 7 at the Artur Rubinstein Philharmonic in Łódź.

The programme of the concerts includes also compositions by Jarosław Płonka, Aleksander Nowak, Artur Zagajewski, Arne Sanders, Zoltan Almashi and Leszek Kułakowski.

The performances are co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage ("Composing Commissions" programme implemented by the Institute of Music and Dance).

New Work by Agata Zubel - premiere

pThe world premiere of Agata Zubel’s orchestral work, In the Shade of an Unshed Tear, will be performer by the Seattle Symphony under Ludovic Morlot on October 27 and 29, 2016.

The piece was written earlier this year in response to a commission from the Seattle Symphony. The artist will appear also on October 28 as a soloist and composer at the Seattle Symphony’s late-night contemporary chamber music series. She will sing her own piece Chapter 13 and Chantefleurs et chantefables by Witold Lutosławski.

Composing Commissions 2017-18

The Ministry of Culture and National Heritage launched the 6th edition of the Collections programme - Composing Commissions 2017-2018 priority. The programme is implemented by the Institute of Music and Dance.

The priority serves to support the creation of contemporary music by commissioning new compositions and providing conditions to their lasting presence in the public space. The fundamental goal of the priority is to bolster the role of new music as a vital medium of social communication and to include contemporary compositions in the transformations of modern culture, including presentations of those works in the context of such issues as the redefinition of high culture, changing roles of artists and audiences, or the impact of new media and technologies on the musical language and reception of music.

Applications for the Composing Commissions priority may be submitted by state and local government-run cultural institutions, non-governmental organisations, churches and religious organizations, state colleges of arts and private schools of arts, as well as business entities.

Application deadline: November 30, 2016.
