Katowice | Birthday gala of Joanna Wnuk-Nazarowa

GalaWnuk 28 5 24On the 28th of May 2024, the Silesian Philharmonic will host a birthday gala for Joanna Wnuk-Nazarowa with the participation of the birthday celebrant - an outstanding composer, pedagogue, conductor and politician, director of cultural institutions, minister of culture and art in 1997-1999.

At 4.30 p.m. in the Chamber Hall, a screening of the film Under Pressure of Sound and Word is scheduled, followed (5.30 p.m.) by a meeting with Joanna Wnuk-Nazarowa and the premiere of a CD of the composer’s works. At 19.00, a concert by the Silesian Chamber Orchestra will take place in the Karol Stryja Concert Hall, with a programme prepared by the composer.

5th edition of the International Festival of Organ and Chamber Music in Sanok district!

The 5th edition of the International Festival of Organ and Chamber Music, with participation of outstanding artists from Poland and abroad, will take place in the Sanok district on 24-27 May 2024. The Festival will also discover new talents through the 4th National Competition for Young Organists. Admission to the concerts is free.

This year's edition of the Festival will be inaugurated in the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord in Sanok with a concert by Anna Maria Jopek, who will be accompanied by: Piotr Wojtasik (trumpet), Igor Pietraszewski (shakuhachi) and Piotr Rojek (organ). On the 25th of May at the Sanok Franciscan Church, we will hear organist Elżbieta Karolak together with soprano Katarzyna Hołysz.

Review Competition of the Silesian Philharmonic

KonkursRecenzencki 24Henryk Mikołaj Górecki Silesian Philharmonic and the Polish Music Publishing House invite students of first- and second-cycle studies in Musicology, Composition and Music Theory to participate in a review competition. Its subject is to create a review dedicated to Joanna Wnuk-Nazarowa's birthday gala. The deadline for submitting applications is the 24th of May, 2024.

The aim of the competition is:

  • promotion and support of students' activities in the field of music criticism, with particular emphasis on works devoted to the performance of works by Polish composers working in the 20th and 21st century;
  • developing the interest of students of Musicology, Composition and Music Theory in music criticism, in particular in the field of performing Polish music of the 20th and 21st

Warsaw | Concert on the 110th anniversary of birth of Andrzej Panufnik

On the 25th of May, 2024 at 6 p.m. in the Auditorium of the Polish History Museum in Warsaw a concert to celebrate the 110th anniversary of birth of Andrzej Panufnik, one of the greatest Polish composers of the 20th century, will take place. Sinfonia Iuventus conducted by Maciej Tomasiewicz and Andrzej Jagodziński Trio (Andrzej Jagodziński, Adam Cegielski and Czesław "Mały" Bartkowski) will perform Andrzej Panufnik's works.

During the evening, Sinfonia rustica, referring to the folk music of the northern regions of our country, and Sinfonia sacra, based on Bogurodzica, a medieval song that is one of the most valuable monuments of old Polish language, will be performed.

On the 26th of May, 2024 at 5 p.m. at the National Forum of Music there will be a concert of choirs of the Choral Academy - "Singing Poland" of the Lower Silesian region, accompanied by an instrumental ensemble.

Performers will be, among others: Tre sta cantando choir of the 3rd Adam Mickiewicz Secondary School in Wrocław, the Angelus Chamber Choir of the Secondary School No. 9 in Wrocław, the Choir of the 1st Bolesław Chrobry Secondary School in Kłodzko, the Chamber Choir of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology, the Piú Mosso Chamber Choir of the Institute of Musicology of the University of Wrocław, the Wrocław Women's Choir and the I Signori Men's Vocal Ensemble. The programme also includes Polish contemporary music: "Magnificat" by A. Koszewski, "Tiebie pojem" by M. Kubacki, "What you discover" by J. Krutul, "O, land of Poland" by J. Łuciuk, "Moja piosnka" by J. Świder and "Glory to You, King of Ages" by A. Rocławska-Musiałczyk.

Warsaw | "Tell me a fairy tale" in Mokotów

On the 25th of May, 2024, the Polish Society for Contemporary Music invites you to the Multimedia Library for Children and Youth No. XXXI in the Mokotów District at 11:00 am, where an impromptu family workshop “Tell me a fairy tale” will again take place. The workshop is aimed at stimulating children's imagination and creativity through joint creative play and developing musical and literary skills. Participation is free of charge!

The workshop will be led by the creators of this workshop and at the same time improvisers: composer and pianist Jaroslaw Siwiński and double bassist Małgorzata Kołcz, as well as their musical guest - Marta Maślanka, an acclaimed artist who plays the dulcimer.

5th Night of Choirs in Ruda Śląska

The International Festival of the 5th Night of Choirs will take place in Ruda Śląska on the 25th of May 2024: this music walk will begin at 5 p.m. on Jan Paweł II Square and will end there at 10 p.m.

The aim of this artistic, educational and social event is not to compete, but to present valuable music to a wide audience. This year's edition will be attended by 26 choirs from Poland and 1 Polish community choir from Belarus.

Wrocław | World premiere of Krzysztof Herdzin's “Concertina"

The highlight of the concert at the National Forum of Music on the 24th of May, 2024 at 7 p.m. will be the world premiere of Krzysztof Herdzin's “Concertina,” a work commissioned by the NFM for the LutosAir Quintet.

The piece, intended for wind quintet (flute, oboe, clarinet, oboe and French horn) and orchestra, was created to celebrate the ensemble's anniversary. “Wind instruments are very close to my heart (I play flute, clarinets and saxophones myself) and I definitely choose them most often as soloists in orchestral and chamber works,” the composer emphasizes.

"Szymanowski" Album Release (NFM 89, ACD 315)

24th of May 2024 will see the premiere of a new album by the National Forum of Music and CD Accord, 'Szymanowski' (NFM 89, ACD 315), featuring soprano Iwona Sobotka, the NFM Choir and the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic conducted by Giancarlo Guerrero.

The album, which is entirely devoted to the works of Karol Szymanowski, features the Concert Overture in E major, Op. 12, Symphony No. 3 'Song of the Night', Op. 27, and Songs of the Fairy-tale Princess, Op. 31. Karol Szymanowski arranged only three songs from the cycle for voice and orchestra: Nos. I, II and IV (1933); the other three were arranged by Bruno Dozza (Nos. III, V and VI (2011-2012)
