The Academy of Music in Wrocław invites you to Ignacy Wojciechowski's monographic concert "sky is the limit ..." as part of the "Musical Tuesday" series on 11 May 2021 at 6.00 p.m.

A young talented artist Ignacy Wojciechowski is a composition student of Prof. Krystian Kiełb. His monographic concert will be performed by students of the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław and the composer himself. The programme will include chamber pieces arranged for string instruments, harp, piano and computer. The introduction will be delivered by an outstanding composer from Wrocław and the head of the Department of Composition of the Academy of Music in Wrocław, Prof. Grażyna Pstrokońska-Nawratil.

The concert will be broadcast on the Academy's Facebook page and YouTube channel.

The 7th International Students' Scientific Conference "Sound Ambiguity" will be held online on 20-21 May 2021. The conference attempt to analyze sound in every aspect, and this year's theme will also tackle sound ecology. The application deadline is 30 April 2021.

The "Sound Ambiguity" conference is an interdisciplinary scientific and artistic project that brings together not only students of music theory and musicology, but also psychology, physics and linguistics, as well as anyone interested in similar issues. The conference is organised by the Research Association of Composition and Music Theory Students of the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław, which for several years has been successfully hosting this scientific meeting of young researchers from Poland and abroad, and has been publishing the results of research and analysis presented at the conference.

In addition to lectures and online presentations, the conference also includes a Composers' Concert with works by young composers from the Wrocław Academy of Music related to the theme of the event.

The Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Krakow invites you on 25 April – 11 May 2021 to the 5th International Piano Duo Festival "Duettissimo!".

As Bartłomiej Kominek, artistic director of the Festival, points out: "This year's 5th edition of the Duettissimo Festival, due to the epidemic threat, is held in a limited form. This year, instead of 19 concerts, workshops and courses, there will be 7 events. As artistic life in concert halls has almost completely died down, Duettissimo will also hit the internet. From 1 June, you will be able to hear all this year's performers on the website www.amuz.krakow.pl/akademiawsieci and on the Festival's YouTube channel. Among them: Lutosławski Piano Duo, Chopin Piano Duo, Novi Piano Duo, Maciej Pikulski and Lech Napierała, and others.

The programme of the 5th Duettissimo is extremely interesting. Apart from outstanding and well-known works for piano duo by Bach, Mozart, Debussy and Lutosławski, you will be able to hear equally beautiful, although less known and rarely performed pieces. We will hear works by Gershwin, Zarębski, and Johannes Brahms' Liebeslieder performed in the Redoubt Rooms of the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera. The icing on the cake will be the Concerto for two pianos by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, performed at the Krakow Philharmonic by Michał Dziad and Agnieszka Przemyk-Bryła with the Symphony Orchestra of the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Krakow."

Last year, the Wind Orchestra of the Academy of Music in Łódź celebrated its 20th anniversary. However, the musical celebration takes place a year later. During the anniversary concert, students under the baton of Artur Czereszewski will present a rich program, including the premiere of Grzegorz Duchnowski's Hocki-klocki. The concert will be broadcast on 9 May 2021 at 6.00 p.m. on the YouTube channel of the Academy of Music in Łódź.

The orchestra will welcome the audience with James Barnes' Fantasy Variations, based on the theme of the famous Caprice, Op. 24 by Niccolò Paganini. We will also hear works by Adam Gorb, Alfred Reed and Toshiro Mayuzumi. The concert will feature soloists: pianist Krzysztof Suwald in George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, trumpeter Igor Cecocho and trombonist Robert Żelazko in Joseph Turrin's Fandango. Grzegorz Duchnowski's Hocki-klocki for oboe solo and orchestra will be premiered by Agata Piotrowska-Bartoszek. The concert will be hosted by Piotr Mika.

The Classic Wind Orchestra was established in the academic year 1999/2000 on the initiative of the longtime head of the Department of Wind Instruments, Prof. Józef Ciepłucha. The orchestra worked under the direction of, among others, Prof. Krzysztof Kamiński and Marcin Radwański, and currently (since 2011) it is run by Artur Czereszewski. Since autumn 2013, the ensemble performs regularly in the Academy's new Concert Hall at Żubardzka St. It also takes part in educational concerts in the "Akademia Pełna Dźwięku" ("Academy Full of Sound") series.

Maestro Antoni Wit is one of the most valued conductors of his generation admired on stages all around the world, and a devoted promoter of Polish music. This music, represented by compositions by a single composer and rendered in a neo-romantic expressive spirit, will fill the entire programme of the monographic concert on 8 May 2021 at 8 p.m.

Its protagonist is the now somewhat forgotten yet outstanding Polish composer Zygmunt Stojowski (this year marks the 75th anniversary of his death). After a short period of tuition from Władysław Żeleński in Warsaw, he continued his compositional studies in Paris and took piano master classes with Paderewski, with whom he developed a long-lasting friendship cemented by a common fate on emigration. The most successful time for Stojowski as a composer, pianist and, above all, a greatly valued pedagogue was the four decades he spent in the United States (from 1905 until his death in 1946).

Symphonic Rhapsody for piano and orchestra was created in 1898–1900. After its successful premiere in Berlin in 1900, it became a part of Stojowski’s and other pianists’ repertoire for many years. The piece, featuring references to national music, impresses with the opulence of changing moods, colourful orchestration and brilliant virtuosity of the solo part, which will be performed by Krzysztof Książek, winner of the 3rd prize and a special award for the best performance of mazurkas in the 1st International Chopin Competition on Period Instruments.

The slightly earlier Symphony in D minor is full of dramatic gravity and strong emotion. This oeuvre, composed by the twenty-seven-year-old composer, won First Prize in the orchestral works category of the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Composition Competition in Leipzig a year after it was composed.
