NFMThe concert 'Christmas Carols of the World' is a great proposition for all those who relish the atmosphere of Christmas. This evening we will hear the most captivating carols from different parts of the world as well as classic Christmas and winter compositions. The West Side Sinfonietta and the NFM Choir, conducted by violinists Paweł Maślanka and Marcin Danilewski, will perform on the stage of the National Forum of Music on 28 December 2021 at 7 p.m.

A few days after the traditional Christmas Eve supper, the Christmas mood will also come to the NFM. This will happen thanks to this special concert whose repertoire includes various Christmas carols from different places and times written both in contemplative and vivacious moods. We will hear, among other, Polish carols arranged by Michał Zieliński, Krzysztof Grzeszczak and Jakub Wiktor Kowalewski.

The West Side Sinfonietta will begin the evening with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Symphony in E major KV 16, composed in Chelsea, London. The next piece to be performed is the Symphony in B flat major, originally marked in Mozart’s catalogue as KV 17. The Weihnachtsmusik, intended for a line-up of two violins, cello, accordion and piano, is a unique work by the leading author of dodecaphony. It was composed in December 1921 for the purpose of celebrating Christmas with family and friends. With this piece, Arnold Schönberg once again proved that he is a master of counterpoint. He chose two well-known carols as the chorale basis: the Protestant Es ist ein Ros entsprungen and the Catholic Stille Nacht.

"Musique est une Femme": Survey on Knowledge About Female Composers and Their Works

Musique_est_une_femmeThe project "Musique est une femme" of the TAK – Temat Aktualny Kultura Foundation, co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme and the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland, is coming to an end. To sum up the project, the organisers invites you to participate in a survey on the knowledge of women composers and their works, which will be available until 31 December 2021.

Talented women have composed many valuable musical works. Unfortunately, they were always performed much less frequently than the compositions of their colleagues and, as a consequence, they were often unjustly forgotten. The project "Musique est une femme" tried to deal with the consequences of this problem by organising, among others, a video contest. The coordinator of the project is musicologist Marlena Wieczorek, PhD.

The questionnaire on the knowledge about women composers and their works is anonymous. Ten randomly selected participants of the survey will receive CDs with premiere recordings of Isabella Leonarda's works performed by Capella Musicale del Duomo di Novara, with a dedication by the conductor of the ensemble Paola Monicelli.

Warsaw | Polish Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra and Piotr Pławner: Glass and Brahms

Piotr Pławner - one of the most outstanding and creative Polish violinists will perform together with Polish Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra as a violinist and a conductor on the 28th of January 2022 at 7 p.m. in Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio of the Polish Radio in Warsaw. Music of Johannes Brahms and Philip Glass will be performed.

The last of Brahms’ four symphonies was premiered less than two years before his death – like many of his late works, it too is pervaded by melancholic mood, especially present in the intensely moving first movement. Despite its traditional architectonics, the entire symphony contains several innovative and original formal elements. It is counted among major items in the canon of late-Romantic symphonic music and is regarded as Brahms’s most significant achievement in orchestral music.

Philip Glass’ Violin Concerto No. 2 of 2009, entitled American Four Seasons, intentionally refers to the similar famous cycle by Antonio Vivaldi. Here, however, there are four separate movements dedicated to the seasons (preceded by a prologue and divided by “song” interludes), rather than separate concertos.

Pławner a winner of the International Henryk Wieniawski Competition in Poznań in 1991 (ex aequo with Bartłomiej Nizioł) and laureate of many other prestigious competitions and awards has with an impressive concert and recording output. “He is one of the greatest talents of our time. He is a genius who can arouse even the most austere audience with his demonicity, bravura and virtuosity!” – the great Yehudi Menuhin spoke of him with delight.
