In February, the Arthur Rubinstein Philharmonic Orchestra is celebrating its 100th anniversary. The final concerts will be held on February 16, 17 and 19, 2016, during which Mikołaj Górecki’s Fanfare for organ and symphony orchestra will have its premiere.
The programme of the concerts includes also Canzona di Barocco by Henryk Czyż, Piano Concerto in E minor, Op. 11 by Fryderyk Chopin, Thus Spoke Zarathustra, Op. 30 by Richard Strauss, Symphony No. 4 by Witold Lutosławski, and Mass in C major, Op. 86 by Ludwig van Beethoven, performed by the Arthur Rubinstein Symphony Orchestra and Choir under the baton on José Maria Florêncio (February 16 and 17) and Kai Bumann (February 19). The solo parts will be interpreted by Adam Tański (organ), Seong-Jin Cho (piano), Wioletta Chodowicz (soprano), Małgorzata Pańko (alto), Tomasz Zagórski (tenor) and Wojciech Gierlach (bass).
1915, specifically February 17, is the beginning of the history of the Arthur Rubinstein Philharmonic, the second oldest symphony orchestra in Poland. On that very day, the ensemble, which was soon to be named the Łódź Symphony Orchestra, the predecessor of the current philharmonic orchestra, played its first concert.
