Special concert commemorating Feliks Nowowiejski and Henryk Sienkiewicz

Q Warsaw Philharmonic will host a special concert on November 20, 2016 featuring Quo vadis, Op. 30 by Feliks Nowowiejski, organized on the occasion of Feliks Nowowiejski’s and Henryk Sienkiewicz’s year.

Quo vadis, a five-movement oratorio for soprano, baritone and bass, mixed choir, organ and symphony orchestra, was inspired by a novel by Henryk Sienkiewicz and composed in 1903. Its style refers to Meyerbeer's grand opera and Haendel's oratory language, especially in choral parts. It had its premiere in 1907 in Ústí nad Labem and was very well received by the audience. After the composer slightly modified the work, it was presented in 1909 in Amsterdam to have its further 200 performances (only till 1939) in numerous cities over Europe, South and North America.

Performers: soprano Aleksandra Kurzak, baritone Artur Ruciński, bass Rafał Siwek, baritone Sebastian Szumski, organist Arkadiusz Bialic, Górecki Chamber Choir (prepared by Włodzimierz Siedlik) and Warmia and Mazury Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra conducted by Piotr Sułkowski.

Organizers: Institute of Music and Dance, Warmia and Mazury Philharmonic in Olsztyn, Warsaw Philharmonic and PWM Edition.

The concert is held under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda.
