"Halka" by Stanisław Moniuszko - Opera Rara

orThe two-act, Vilnius version of Halka by Stanisław Moniuszko will be staged on January 31 and February 1-2, 2017 at the Opera Rara Festival in Krakow.

"The work tells the heartbreaking story (…) that contrasts the tragedy of a highland girl with the wedding of the hypocritical Janusz, her beloved. Suspended between the two different worlds: the degenerate aristocracy and the people burning with a desire for revenge, the desperate Halka is a tool of sharp social criticism in the hands of Moniuszko and the librettist Włodzimierz Wolski" (source: www.operarara.pl).

The Krakow production, directed by Cezary Tomaszewski, will be interpreted by sopranos Natalia Kawałek and Małgorzata Rodek, tenor Jakub Pawlik and baritone Sebastian Szumski who will be accompanied by Capella Cracoviensis, playing the historical instruments and conducted by Jan Tomasz Adamus.
