BASSO 2. Biennale of Low Tones: "The Birth of a Cello"

bassoBASSO 2. Biennale of Low Tones will take place in Warsaw and will last until November 30, 2017.

BASSO is a unique biennial, mainly due to its originality and pioneering character in Poland. The idea of the event is to go beyond the framework of the classical festival of classical music. The core of the programme is music for bass instruments, with particular emphasis on cello, viola da gamba and double bass, as well as brass and electronic instruments (tuba, bassoon, bass guitar) and folk instruments (basses). The name of the event refers to the baroque practice of basso continuo, i.e. a system of partially improvised accompaniment played on a bass line.

The concert of the leading European baroque ensemble Les Basses Réunies entitled "The Birth of a Cello" will take place on November 13 at the Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio. The ensemble will be led by his founder and artistic director Bruno Cocset, one of the most prominent baroque cellists of the middle generation. He will play along with gambist Guido Balestracci and harpsichordist Bertrand Cuiller. The programme will be filled with works of the late Renaissance and Baroque periods by such composers as Ortiz, Frescobaldi and Dall'Abacco, but there will also be a Polish accent in the form of works by Adam Jarzębski.

During his stay in Poland, Bruno Cocset will also conduct a Master Class at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw on November 14-15. Application deadline: November 10, 2017.
