Krakow Philharmonic 74th season opening concert

FK

Karol Szymanowski Philharmonic in Krakow opens its 74th artistic season. During the inaugural concerts – on October 5, 2018 at 7.30 p.m. and October 6, 2018 at 6.00 p.m. – the Orchestra and Choir of the Krakow Philharmonic will perform under the baton of the artistic director of the institution, Charles Olivieri-Munroe.

The season opening concerts coincide with the 125th anniversary of the death of Piotr Czajkowski (November 6, 1893 ), hence the programme includes one of the most well-known works of the Russian composer – Piano Concerto No. 1 in B minor, Op. 23. It will be presented to the Krakow audience by an outstanding Russian pianist Nikolai Demidenko – an artist performing on stages around the world, juror of international piano competitions, including the recently completed 1st International Chopin Competition on Historical Instruments, an excellent interpreter of piano literature of Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov and Prokofiev. The concert will start with Polonia dance suite by Andrzej Panufnik, and will be crowned with rarely performed oratorio The Prophet Isaiah by Alexander Tansman, with the solo part by tenor Przemysław Borys.
