Szczecin | Philharmonic chamber concert: Polish music

On October 24, 2018 at 7:00 pm in the Chamber Hall of the Szczecin Philharmonic, there will be a concert of Polish music performed by the musicians of the Szczecin Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra.

The artists will present, among others, the first of two early string quartets by Stanisław MoniuszkoQuartet in D minor, dedicated to Józef Elsner. The programme will also included a repertoire from the second half of the twentieth century. The five-part String Quartet No. 3 "Wycinanki" (Paper-cuts) by Andrzej Panufnik was written in 1990, when composer return to Poland after 36 years of emigration. Hence, in the title and formal structure a reference to Polish folklore – the symmetry of folk paper-cuts. Another composition for a string quartet is the Overture by Mikołaj Górecki from 2000, which is characterized by a lively theme and constant struggle between tonality and atonality. The programme also covers two trios by contemporary artists associated with Szczecin – Artur Cieślak and Tadeusz Mazurek. The evening will end with the Fantasy Trio, Op. 26 for clarinet, cello and piano by a Polish-American composer born in Chicago – Robert Muczyński.
