Katowice | Fryderyk Awards 2019: Classical Music Gala

The classical music gala of the "Fryderyk" awards will take place on March 12, 2019 at 7:45 p.m. in the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra Concert Hall in Katowice.

The National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra has been nominated in two categories: "Album of the Year: Symphony and Concert Music" (for the album Dziadek. Orchestral works) and "Album of the Year: Choral Music, Oratorio and Opera" (for the album Szymanowski. Operetta in 3 acts "Lottery for husbands or fiance No. 69").

The gala concert will feature outstanding Polish soloists of the young generation. Pianist Szymon Nehring, winner of the Artur Rubinstein International Piano Competition in Tel Aviv (2017), will present his rendition of Piotr Czajkowski's Piano Concerto No. 1 in B flat minor for the first time in Poland. Janusz Wawrowski will perform Violin Concerto No. 2 in D Minor by Henryk Wieniawski on the stradivarius "Polonia" , built in 1685 by the legendary luthier from Cremona Antonio Stradivari. The instrument was bought in 2018 by a private Polish owner and put at the exclusive disposal of Janusz Wawrowski. Both soloists will be accompanied by the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice under the direction of the Belarusian conductor Alexander Humala.
