Kraków | 3rd International Piano Duo Festival"Duettissimo!"

Duettissimo

The Academy of Music in Kraków invites you to the 3rd International Piano Duos Festival "Duettissimo!" which will take place on April 23-27, 2019, featuring nine concert and an academic session.

Piano duos are often perceived as a non-demanding offshoot of chamber music, even though the truth is that playing as a duet – whether for four hands or on two pianos – is incredibly challenging: the performers must come together to create a single musical entity to achieve perfect sound. The diversity and beauty of the form will be explored during the 3rd International Piano Duo Festival “Duettissimo!”, organised by the Academy of Music in Kraków and hosted at the Academy and the Kraków Philharmonic. The initiator of the event is dr hab. Bartlomiej Kominek – the Artistic Director of the Festival.

The programme will include classical works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Johannes Brahms, Maurice Ravel and Sergei Rachmaninov, contemporary compositions by Charles Camilleri, Derek Charke and Anne Louise-Turgeon as well as works by Polish composers. Ravel Piano Duo (Agnieszka Kozło and Katarzyna Ewa Sokołowska) will perform Five Waltzes by Ignacy Friedman, Sonatina by Roman Palester, Lullaby by Roman Maciejewski and Divertimento in Three Pieces by Jerzy Bauer. Chopin Piano Duo (Anna Boczar and Bartłomiej Kominek) will present Album form the Tatra Mountains by Ignacy Jan Paderewski, Negro Spirituals by Roman Maciejewski and the Grand Duo Concertant by Fryderyk Chopin. Among the performers there will also be acclaimed Duo Turgeon, lecturers and students of the Academy of Music in Kraków and winners of the International Piano Duo Competition in Białystok. The festival will be accompanied by an academic session discussing the role of piano duet repertoire in music education.
