"Classical and Contemporary" – online symphonic concert

FZThe Symphony Orchestra of the Zielona Góra Philharmonic conducted by Ryszard Zimak will present works by Mikołaj Górecki and Joseph Haydn during an online concert "Classical and contemporary" on 19 December 2020 at 7.00 p.m.

Mikołaj Górecki dedicated his Elegy for cello and string orchestra (2015) to Tomasz Strahl, who described the character of this piece as follows: "Elegy begins with a dark interlude, which is then followed by two first variations of a dramatic, virtuoso character. The cello part has been arranged perfectly: there are doublings, doubles and a virtuoso semiquaver texture. Variation number three is like a ray of sunshine: hope comes here for a while. Personally, I see an analogy to Elegy by Gabriel Fauré: a cello cantilena is fantastic, you can even say it is divine. Then, again, comes the virtuoso action turn and all falls into a dark wailing of the cello that is apparently heading towards non-existence".

During the upcoming concert, the solo part will be performed by Antoni Wrona – a scholarship holder of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage. The young cellist has won numerous awards in competitions organised in Poland and abroad. He has performed in many famous concert halls, including the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice, the Zielona Góra Philharmonic, the Royal Castle in Warsaw and the Krzysztof Penderecki European Centre for Music.
