Wrocław | Dance at NFM: "Manhattan"

NFMCan a human being refrain from using what they can produce? Manhattan, a dance performance with live music by Aleksander Wnuk and Michał Lazar, will try to answer this question. The performance, choreographed by Dominika Wiak and Daniela Komędera-Miśkiewicz, will take place as part of the Polish Dance Network, organised by the National Institute of Music and Dance.

The American "Manhattan Project" aimed to build the first nuclear weapon. It was a paradoxical bomb: it was supposed to bring great destruction and end the war at the same time. The dropping of the Little Boy on Hiroshima is a horrifying example of human activity to demonstrate that a way to seek reconciliation is to increase violence. Can a war end in any other way than by escalating aggression? Apocalyptic thinking ceases to be madness and becomes everyday reality. We can either destroy or love each other.

"Looking at the strong, precise movement of strong muscles gives some kind of satisfaction, but we do not always see the hidden desire to dominate and capture by attack. In some scenes of the performance, the authors even use elements of the grotesque, emphatically showing how far our tolerance for aggression reaches.” – wrote Maria Pastwa (taniecPOLSKA.pl)
