On 29 August 2021 at 12.00 p.m. the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Maciej Tomasiewicz will take part in an open-air concert in the park at the Xawery Dunikowski Museum of Sculpture "Królikarnia" in Warsaw, presenting works by Joseph Haydn, Ludwig van Beethoven and Stefan Kisielewski.
With his Symphony in D major No. 104 of 1795, Haydn bid farewell to the genre of music which has become a trademark of his rich and varied work. The pathetic, minor introduction has the energy of Beethoven's later titanic works. Imperial Vienna in the Classical era was in love with ballet performances. Also Beethoven, entering the period of his greatest fame, gifted the capital with his only ballet Die Geschöpfe des Prometheus. Nowadays, this ballet only occasionally returns to the stages, but its spectacular, energetic overture will be performed at the upcoming open-air concert.
Stefan Kisielewski's Concerto for Chamber Orchestra was written in 1944. Five years later, the composer recreated the score partially destroyed during the Warsaw Uprising. Considered a flagship piece of the neoclassical trend, the concerto sparkles with humor and contains a number of humorous allusions to various musical conventions of old eras.
