Suffering has always been an integral part of Polish culture, including music. It resonates in the works of renowned 20th-century Polish composers which make up the new album of the Czestochowa Philharmonic Choir Collegium Cantorum Łzy polskie [Polish tears]. The album will premiere on 13 December 2021.
The date of the album premiere is a symbolic one. On the 40th anniversary of the introduction of martial law in Poland, let us focus on music that tries to understand suffering, bring relief and lead us to emotional catharsis.
Apart from presenting the music of prominent composers, the album touches a broad theme of suffering and its sources, so different for each artist and person. The list of composers is not accidental. Andrzej Nikodemowicz, Tadeusz Paciorkiewicz, Edward Pałłasz and Wojciech Kilar – born at the beginning of the 20th century, they lived in Poland fighting for freedom and true independence, struggling with many adversities, sacrificing a lot – including their own security – to cultivate and promote Polish culture. Their work clearly shows the national spirit, love for the homeland and fundamental values on which Polish culture is based.
The album also includes the first recording of a unique piece Orfeusz w lesie [Orpheus in the Forest] by Tadeusz Paciorkiewicz to the words of Krzysztof Kamil Baczyński.
From 13 December, the CD will be available for sale on the publisher's website www.instytutsztuki.com. It will also be released in digital distribution (Spotify, Deezer, iTunes, Amazon).
