Katowice | New Music Orchestra: " Bird Sky over the Lake"

A concert of the New Music Orchestra "Bird sky over the lake" will take place on May 27, 2018 at 6.00 pm in the Katowice headquarters of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra. 

The ensemble will present works by Olivier Messiaen and his students: Tristan Murail and Grażyna Pstrokońska-Nawratil. The programme will feature compositions inpired by nature: Oiseaux exotiques for piano and chamber orchestra by Olivier Messiaen,  ...como el sol e la mar ... (Summer) for flute and chamber orchestra by Grażyna Pstrokońska-Nawratil, and Le lac for chamber orchestra by Tristan Murail.

Elbląg | Under the white and red flag with Herdzin

A concert of the 15th Summer Politics Gardens in Elbląg, with the participation of Krzysztof Herdzin, Krakow Reed Trio and Elbląg Chamber Orchestra, will take place on June 8, 2018 at 7.00 pm, in the main hall of the Cyprian Norwid Elbląg Library.

Apparently, you do not enter the same river twice, but fortunately this rule does not apply to the Elbląg Chamber Orchestra and Krzysztof Herdzin. EOK and one of the most versatile Polish musicians will once again join forces – this time to show the timeless beauty of native melodies. They will be joined by the Krakow Reed Trio.

The programme will include such works as Three Crowns – a poem devoted to the mountains and a kind of musical tribute to Wojciech Kilar, Concertino for reed trio and strings, Chopiniana Con Delizia for piano and strings, and Suite on Polish themes, in which Krzysztof Herdzin refers to traditional Polish melodies – polka, olender, mazurek, zbójnicki, polonez and krakowiak.

The last broadcast of the season – "Coppelia" live from Bolshoi Theatre on June 10th

The broadcast of the comic ballet Coppélia with Léo Delibes' music live from Moscow is approaching. Viewers in 20 cinemas will watch the spectacle on June 10, 2018 and later retransmitions are planned in many other venues. Praha Cinema invites you to the broadcast on June 10 at 5.00 pm.

The Bolshoi’s unique version of Coppélia exhibits a fascinating reconstruction of the original 19th century choreography of this ebullient comedy involving a feisty heroine, a boyish fiancee with a wandering eye, and an old dollmaker. The company’s stunning corps de ballet shines in the divertissements and famous “dance of the hours,” and its principals abound in youthful energy and irresistible humor in this effervescent production.

Synopsis: Swanhilda notices her fiancee Franz is infatuated with the beautiful Coppélia who sits reading on her balcony each day. Nearly breaking up the two sweethearts, Coppelia is not what she seems and Swanhilda decides to teach Franz a lesson…

Sułkowice | Concert of Laureats of the Antoni Cofalik National Violin and Viola Competition

The concert of laureates of the Antoni Cofalik National Violin and Viola Competition for Primary Music Schools' Students will take place on June 9, 2018 at 6.00 pm in the Concert Hall in Sułkowice.

The aim of the competition is to develop children's musical talent, present their artistic achievements, promote the most talented students, improve methodological and pedagogical skills of teachers and popularize the work of Professor Antoni Cofalik, an outstanding pedagogue and composer of numerous works for children and youth.

Open auditions will be held on June 8-9, 2018 in the Concert Hall located in the ZSZiO hall of residence in Sułkowice (1 Maja 66 St.). The compulsory program of the Competition includes works from collections by Antoni Cofalik: At the zoo, At the circus and Aviary.

The concert of laureates will take place in the Sułkowice Concert Hall. All participants of the Competition will receive commemorative diplomas, and the winners will also receive prizes. For the best participant of the Competition a special prize of Professor Antoni Cofalik will be handed out.

Katowice | The Youth's Wednesday at NOSPR: Al Pari Quartet

On June 13, 2018 at 7.30 in the headquarters of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice, the Al Pari string quartet will perform String Quartet No. 7 by Grażyna Bacewicz.

Once again, the Institution for the Promotion and Dissemination of Music "Silesia" invited Al Pari string quartet. The ensemble was formed in 2017 on the initiative of female students of the Academy of Music in Katowice. It consists of: Marta Lucjan and Alicja Miruk-Mirska (violins), Magdalena Maier (viola) and Elżbieta Rychwalska (cello).

During the June concert from the cycle "The Youth's Wednesday – Silesia presents", the ensemble will perform three quartets from great chamber literature – compositions by Ludwig van Beethoven, Claude Debussy and Grażyna Bacewicz.

Krakow | 4. Sinfonietta Festival "Do Not Move The Capital to Krakow"

The summer festival of the Sinfonietta Cracovia starting on June 21, 2018 will bring us four unique concerts in the historic interiors of the famous Sukiennice and the beautiful gardens of the National Museum in Krakow plus a spectacular musical battle finale held in the Krakow Philharmonic.

The special guest of this year's edition will be the outstanding, charismatic Polish conductor Jerzy Maksymiuk who will lead the Sinfonia Varsovia during the musical duel with Sinfonietta Cracovia performing under the baton of Jurek Dybał, its director and the mastermind behind the Festival’s unique programming. The tongue-in-cheek battle of the leading Polish orchestras will be judged by Filip Jaślar from the Grupa MocArta ‒ a musician-turned-comedian, beloved by the audience for his exceptional sense of humor (25 June).

We will also hear Tomasz Konieczny ‒ a world-famous Polish singer regularly performing on such iconic scenes as Vienna State Opera, La Scala or Metropolitan Opera ‒ who will be the star of the concert comemorating the late composer Henryk Mikołaj Górecki (22 June). Chamber music enthusiasts will be delighted by the virtuoso duel of the Sinfonia Varsovia Quintet with the Sinfonietta Cracovia’s Chamber Musicians’ Quintet, which will inaugurate the festival (21 June).

The programme will also include two (!) free concerts for all Cracovians and Sinfonietta’s guests: the next edition of the innovative, highly popular Clubbing with chamber music (23 June) and an open-air cross-over concert Lutosławski, from Warsaw (June 24) with Magda Navarrete.

NeoQuartet's concerts in China, Japan and South Korea

The Polish string quartet NeoQuartet embarks on an Asian tour. The series of concerts from June 15 to June 24, 2018 is part of the celebration of the centennial of Poland's independence.

The artists will perform in prestigious concert halls in China, South Korea, Japan and will take part in contemporary music festivals: Daegu International Contemporary Music Festival and International Contemporary Festival in Kyoto.

The programme of concerts will include the most outstanding works by Polish composers from the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries as well as works by Chinese, Korean and Japanese artists. The musicians will perform compositions by Witold Lutosławski, Krzysztof Penderecki, Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, Paweł Szymański and Andrzej Panufnik. During the concert in Beijing NeoQuartet will be accompanied by the Chinese pianist Dai Bo.

The project was financed from the funds of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage under the "Niepodległa" Multiannual Program for the years 2017-2021, as part of the IAM "Cultural bridges" grant program.

Katowice | Open Days at NOSPR

On June 17, 2018, the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra will take part in the Open Days of European Funds. This year's edition is the fifth one in a row – NOSPR, as a beneficiary of EU funds, participates in the organization of this event.

Open Days of European Funds is an EU initiative implemented in Poland by the Ministry of Investment and Development. The action presents and promotes the effects of EU funds involvement in the development of various projects in Poland. The organizers have prepared a lot of attractions, including concerts, workshops for children and adults and selfie time.

At 11.00 am a concert of the Brass Band will be held under the direction of Anna Goj and Damian Łebek. Then there will be workshops for children "Concert savoir vivre  How to behave at a serious music concert", which will be led by Asia Bronisławska (01.00-01.45 pm). During the next meeting "Concert hall without secrets" (02. 00-03.00) NOSPR employees will talk about curiosities and acoustic qualities, as well as demonstrate the technical possibilities of the concert hall. At 3.00 pm the "Selfie time" will start  all visitors at NOSPR will have the opportunity to take a selfie in the concert hall, with instruments played by musicians, and shoot videos with their smartphones. In the evening, at 8.00 pm, in the Concert Hall there will be a concert of the Old Timers band  one of the oldest and most valued groups playing traditional jazz in Poland.

Workshops will also take place at the Amfiteatar (workshops with MIUOSH for children) and in the Chamber Hall (Jeremiasz Frączek will lead workshops for children "Little Sound Director", and Monika Drygalska will lead workshops for people aged 60+ "Feel the violin"). At 6.00 pm in the Chamber Hall, the New Music Orchestra will present Mouvement (-vor der Erstarrung) by Helmut Lachenmann and premiere Double bass concerto by Sławomir Wojciechowski. Łukasz Bebłot will perform as soloist.

5th Festival "Polish Music in Warmia and Żuławy"

The fifth edition of the "Polish Music in Warmia and Żuławy" Festival will take place on July 3-6, 2018 in Braniewo, Stare Pole, Elbląg and Pasłęk. The Elbląg Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Marek Moś along with Marcin Wyrostek and his band will perform four concerts that harmoniously combine spiritual and entertainment accents.

Marcin Wyrostek is an accordionist, composer, lecturer at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice and a member of the American Association of Accordionists. He is the winner of over 30 accordion competitions. The key element of his musical identity is improvisation. He recorded four original albums, for which he received, among others, triple platinum and the nomination for the "Fryderyk" 2010 Award for the album Magia del Tango, platinum for the album For Alice and double platinum for the album Coloriage. His latest album Polacc includes works inspired by Polish music.

Admission to all festival concerts is free.

Toruń | 6th International Copernicus Choir Festival and Competition

Astrolabium Society of Choral Music Enthusiasts invites you to the 6th International Copernicus Choir Festival and Competition „Per musicam ad astra”. The event will be held between June 27 and July 1, 2018 in Toruń.

„Per musicam ad astra” International Copernicus Choir Festival & Competition will for the 6th time present a great opportunity for integration of the choral community and promotion of choral music. Its name refers to the figure and work of the famous astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus who was born here. The aim of the event is also to promote the rich tourist and cultural offer of the city of Toruń and the Kujawsko-Pomorskie province.

The Festival will include performances by mixed, male, female, youth and children choirs and vocal ensembles from Hungary, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Czech Republic and Poland. Over the course of 5 days participants will compete for the Grand Prix in the amount of 2000 EUR, with more than a dozen accompanying events, including Friendship Concerts in the whole region. Devoted audiences and beautiful, mostly gothic, settings make them an unforgettable experience.

An ever-important part of the event are workshops and seminars enhancing vocal capabilites of the singers and their conductors, lead by renowned voice clinicians. This year, apart from Individual Coaching (IC) and Evaluation Performance (EP) there will be workshops "Vocal technique – sound – interpretation" lead by Prof. Krzysztof Szydzisz.

Warsaw | 4. Chopin Evenings on Okólnik Street

It is the fourth time that the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music invites all for the concert cycle entitled "Chopin Evenings on Okólnik Street" under the honorary patronage of His Magnificence Rector of the FCUM, prof. dr hab. Klaudiusz Baran.

This year’s festival is focused on the Polish music: “Around Fryderyk Chopin”. Each week we will hear representatives of one of the nine academies of music in Poland. Besides Chopin's music, we will hear works by Szymanowski, Niewiadomski, Nowowiejski, Paderewski, Tansman, Moniuszko, Ogiński, Kania, Zarębski, Friedman, and Zawadzki.

The concerts will be held in July (3, 10, 17, 24, 31) and August (7, 14, 21, 28) on each Tuesday at 6.00 pm. Artistic Director of the events: Rector of the FCUM, prof. dr hab. Klaudiusz Baran. Anchor: Piotr Wojciechowski.

Elbląg | Cinema sounds with Tomasz Stockinger and Elbląg Chamber Orchestra

At the end of the summer, on August 31, 2018 at 7.00 pm in the State Music Schools Complex in Elbląg, the Elbląg Chamber Orchestra will recall the hits that have had the greatest impact on the 20th century cinematography. They will be accompanied on stage by Stefan Gąsieńiec, Sebastian Perłowski and Tomasz Stockinger.

The Elbląg musicians under the baton of Sebastian Perłowski will present works that have connected the world of music and film for over several decades. We will hear music by Krzesimir DębskiWładysław Szpilman, Fryderyk Chopin, Scott Joplin, Waldemar Kazanecki, George Gershwin, Włodzimierz Korcz, Mirosław Gąsieniec, Wojciech Kilar, and Carlos Gardel. The concert will be hosted by well-known TV, theater and film actor Tomasz Stockinger.

Toruń | Results of the 6th International Copernicus Choir Competition

On Saturday, 30th June 2018, in the Artus Court, the 6th International Copernicus Choir Festival and Competition ended with the award ceremony.

The competition was attended by 9 (out of 13) choirs from the Czech Republic, Norway, Sweden, Hungary and Poland, and the competition lasted two days under the supervision of an international jury composed of: Jürgen Fassbender (Germany). Gabor Hollerung (Hungary), Krzysztof Szydzisz (Poland). Three choirs were selected to participate in the festival's Grand Prix competition.

The best of the best was the Abbellimento Choir from the Czech Republic under the direction of Jarmily Novenkoeva. The same ensemble also received a special award for outstanding performance of a contemporary composer's work. The Grand Prix prize in the form of a symbolic check for 2,000 euros was given by one of the Honorary Patrons of the festival, the Mayor of Toruń, Michał Zaleski.

The organizers of the festival: Association of Choral Music Enthusiasts "Astrolabium" in Toruń, meeting music agency (Germany) and "Tumska 14" Association in Chełmża.

4th Małopolska Academy of Talents Music Festival

The forth edition of Malopolska Academy of Talents Festival will take place between June 26 and July 8, 2018.

On Tuesday, June 26, an accompanying concert for the end of the school year will be held in the performance hall in Łąck. On June 29, duo Fortecello will perform in the Town Hall Hall in Nowy Sącz. Polish cellist Anna Mikulska and French pianist Philippe Argenty will present works of Chopin, Debussy, Bartók and Servais. On July 1, summer music courses in Łąck will begin, and on Wednesday, July 4, for the third time, Archi in Chiesa concert  will take place in the parish of St. John the Baptist in Łąck, featuring Messages Quartet, Jan Kalinowski, Piotr Lato and course participants.

This year's festival will also celebrate the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining independence. On July 5 in the Limanowa Community Centre Messages Quartet composed of: Małgorzata Wasiucionek, Oriana Masternak (violin), Maria Dutka (viola) and Beata Urbanek-Kalinowska (cello) will perform works by Szymon Laks, Krzysztof Penderecki and Stanisław Moniuszko. The finale of the Małopolska Talent Academy will take place on July 7 in the concert hall of the Music School in Żegocin. Participants of music courses will perform along with with Bartłomiej Kominek, Gajusz Kęska and Marek Szlezer.

The festival and music courses will end on July 8 with a unique concert by the String Orchestra of the Małopolska Talent Academy under the direction of Jadwiga Bialic (violin) with the guest participation of Małgorzata Wasiucionek and Oriana Masternak in St. John the Baptist Parish in Łąck.

The partners of the 4th Małopolska Talent Academy are the Łącko Commune and the Limanowski Dom Kultury. Project implemented with the financial support of the Małopolska voivodship.

6th Lower Silesian Music Festival in July

On 1st July 2018, the 6th edition of the Lower Silesian Music Festival began, with the leitmotif of Polish music, "Viva la Polonia"!

"Poland and France – friendship, love, longing" is the title of the Fortcello concert that inaugurated this year's festival in the Palace of Kamieniec. Polish cellist Anna Mikulska and French pianist Philippe Argenty perfmed a programme composed of national works, sharing with the audience interesting anecdotes about the repertoire and its composers. Before the concert, the musicians met with the youngest listeners during a joint concert in the form of workshops.

On 7th July, the Michael Archangelo Church in Lewin Kłodzki will host a master organ recital by Jürgen Benkö, who will perform on the local organs after a 10-year period of renovation. The concert of the German organist will include works by Bach, Mendelssohn, Franck and Gigout, as well as improvisations on Polish church songs. The next day, Duo del Gesu will perform at the Żelazno Palace. Violinist Arnaud Kamiński and violist Krzysztof Tymendorf will present works of Mozart, Debussy, Saczko, Marais and Haydn. Both concerts will be preceded by workshops for children.
