7th edition of La Folle Journée Festival will be held on September 23-25, 2016 at the Teatr Wielki – National Opera in Warsaw.
This year’s edition is devoted to the very universal theme that is "Nature". From the dawn of time people have been fascinated by the cyclic nature of the seasons, the abundance of landscapes and the power of the elements. Starting with the Renaissance, through the Baroque, composers have loved to imitate the sounds of nature. It played an important role in the works of Romantic composers, unmistakably nature-influenced works of Richard Strauss from the beginning of the 20th century until contemporary times, where nature continues to be an inspiring theme in pieces composed by Igor Stravinsky, Philip Glass, or Polish composers like Witold Lutosławski and Wojciech Kilar. To this day, nature remains an inexhaustible source of inspiration.
Nature-influenced compositions will be presented by several soloists, ensembles and orchestras, including violinists Olivier Charlier and Mariusz Patyra, pianists Frank Braley and Francesco Tristano, er-hu player Jiang-Jian Hua, conductors Krzysztof Penderecki, Jacek Kaspszyk, Grzegorz Nowak, and Robert Trevino, Motion Trio, Meccore String Quartet, Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, Sinfonia Varsovia, Polish Chamber Orchestra and Teatr Wielki-National Opera Symphony Orchestra.
