The idea behind the concert of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Branch of the Polish Composers’ Union, held as part of the Festival of the 100th Anniversary of the PCU, is to combine the sound of contemporary music with the unique timbre of period instruments—performed by the Baroque Orchestra Intemperata from Bydgoszcz. With this ensemble in mind, works by Aleksandra Brejza and Rafał Gorzycki were written and will be presented to the public for the first time on November 6, 2025, at 7:00 PM in Melcer Hall at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. Admission is free!
Aleksandra Brejza’s piece Anthem, for female voice and orchestra, is a kind of dialogue between the elevated tone of hymnic music and the subtle intensity of pure instrumental sound. The solo part will be performed by soprano Dorota Nowak.
Rafał Gorzycki’s Dawn of the Connection is based on the text of the Master’s Aria from his opera Lustro (Mirror), currently in progress. His latest composition refers to the "Connection Revolution"—a groundbreaking scientific discovery that transformed modern humanity’s perception of reality.
The Baroque Orchestra will also perform: Elegy by Bohdan Riemer, reflecting on the passage of time, Three Impressions by Magdalena Cynk, inspired by visual arts and based on the works of artist Wojciech Siudmak, Under the Shadow of Latin Sails..., a vocalise by Marcin Kopczyński, Two movements (Quis est homo, Pro peccatis suae gentis) from the cantata Stabat Mater by Piotr A. Komorowski, referencing the rich musical tradition from the Middle Ages to the present; and Arietta by Marcin Gumiela, a musical reminiscence.
