A concert of this year's graduates of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw will take place on June 5, 2018 at 7 pm at the Warsaw Philharmonic (5 Moniuszko St.)
As always, no end of season would be complete without a special event that for many years now has added colour and particular importance to our philharmonic tradition. This event is the concert given by graduates of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music – the largest academy of music in Poland. The fact that the best alumni of the University perform on the Philharmonic’s stage has given it symbolic value – years of musical education are crowned with a unique and prestigious concert. For decades, the graduates of first the Conservatory, then the Academy of Music, and recently the University of Music, have gone on to join the ensembles of the Warsaw Philharmonic and will continue to do so in the future. It is a natural rite of passage and at the same time shows a real (day‑to‑day) dimension of the work performed by both institutions.
Teh programme of the evening will include: Philippe Gaubert – Fantaisie for flute and piano, Camille Saint-Saëns – Introduction et rondo capriccioso, Op. 28, Ferruccio Busoni – Chaconne based on Chaconne from the Violin Partita No. 2 in D Minor, BWV 1004 by J.S. Bach, Paweł Mykietyn – 4 Preludes for piano, Olivier Messiaen – Thème et variations for violin and piano, Claude Pascal – Trois Légendes for clarinet and piano, Paweł Szymański – Ein Traum – No. 1 from the cycle of 3 Songs to words by Georg Trakl (ver. for voice and piano), Witold Lutosławski – Wind and Winter from the cycle Five Songs to words by Kazimiera Iłłakowiczówna (ver. for female voice and piano), Prasqual – Ballade vom Telefon from the cycle Four Songs to words by Manfred Wolff for soprano and piano, Russell Peterson – Trio #2 for flute, alto saxophone and piano, Francis Poulenc – La courte paille, FP 178.
The concert is co-organized by the National Philharmonic. Tickets available at the Philharmonic website.
