Zakopane | 46th Karol Szymanowski Music Festival in Zakopane

Patronat medialny nad Festiwalem objęło Polskie centrum Informacji Muzycznej POLMIC.

FestiwalSzymanowskiego 23

During the 46th Karol Szymanowski Music Festival in Zakopane on July 21-30, 2023, the theme of musical events will be a current and burning topic - emigration, the past and the present one. During the inaugural concert, the New Music Orchestra, conducted by Anna Sułkowska-Migoń, will premiere Kolomyjki by the Ukrainian composer Bogdan Krywopust.

The programme includes works by Polish artists of the 20th century who saved their lives thanks to emigration (Aleksandr Tansman, Tadeusz Zygfryd Kassern, Roman Palester, Mieczysław Wajnberg, Karol Rathaus); those composers who, while operating for the greater part of their lives abroad, retained their national identity (Henryk Wieniawski, Juliusz Zarębski, Antoni Szałowski, Andrzej Panufnik, Andrzej Nikodemowicz).

On the 28th of July, we will hear for the first time Bartosz Witkowski's Piano Quintet ‘Landscape from Harenda’: a work created as part of the ‘Composers' Commissions’ programme implemented by the National Institute of Music and Dance, premiered by Tymoteusz Bies and the Silesian Quartet.
