Krakow Philharmonic Orchestra and violinist Kamil Skicki conducted by Mateusz Czech will perform a concert Though the Mirror of Music - Kaleidoscope of Folklore which will be held on April 14 and 15, 2016 at the Krakow Philharmonic as a part of the "Musica - Ars Amanda" cycle.

"Musica – Ars Amanda" is a series of symphony concerts directed to the junior and senior college youth. Each season, there is a main theme connecting all evenings. Orchestral programmes that present a given tendency in the history of music or a particular section of instruments are preceded by a lecture that renders easy the perception and situates a piece in a broader context.

The programme of the April concerts features works by 19th- and 20th-century composers, who were inspired by folklore of various cultures (including Polish, Czech, Spanish, Italian, Romanian, English and Jewish culture): Harnasie, Op. 55 by Karol Szymanowski (excerpts); Slavonic Dances No. 1, Op. 46 and No. 2, Op. 72 by Antonin Dvořák; Final Dance from the ballet The Three-Cornered Hat by Manuel de Falla; Csardas by Vittorio Monti; Romanian Rhapsody No. 1 in A major, Op. 11 by George Enescu; Suite from the film Fiddler on the Roof by Jerry Bock (arr. John Williams); Fantasia on British Sea Songs by Henry Wood (excerpts).

2nd National Scientific Conference "Contemporary Challenges in Music Education" will be held on April 18-19, 2016 at the Department of Instrumental and Educational Studies of the Fryderyk Chopin University in Białystok.

The aim of the conference is to set the diagnosis of music education (in relation to the fact that the world has been undergoing dynamic changes) and to identify ways of development of music education in the context of conscious and creative exploration of musical heritage. The modern world generates previously unknown problems which challenge the education. Under these conditions, a view on a teacher, conductor, and animator becomes crucial for the proces of educating future generations of young artists.

The conference will cover several topics, such as: music education as the future aesthetic education of children and youth, problems in educating professional music staff, reforms in music education, contemporary research on music education, musical preferences and interests of children and young people and the role of extracurricular music activities in the development of children and youth.

The organizers invited the representatives of the Department of Art and Culture Education (Ministry of Culture and National Heritage) to participate in the event.

This year’s edition of the Festival of Traditional and Avant-garde Music "Codes" will be held on May 11-14, 2016 in various venues in Lublin.

The Festival is an international event devoted to the idea of combining the archaic and the new in music. The mixture of two distinctive canons of aesthetics forms a unique experience, in which magic and beauty co-exist. The festival provides the contemporary composers and the representatives of the avant-garde jazz with an opportunity to meet traditional musicians and artists reconstructing early music.

The programme of 2016 edition includes concerts of Ensemble Tourbillon with Olga Pasiecznik, Theatre of Voices, CocoRosie, Polish premiere of operas love fail by David Lang and Job by Ukraininan composers Roman Grygoriv and llia Razumeiko, premiere performances of work commissioned by the Festival - RÊVE RAVE by Jagoda Szmytka, Snowstalkers of Ancient Apron by Piotr Kurek and The Elements by Hans van Koolwijk, as well as installations, meetings with artists and dancings.

Austrian Cultural Forum (7/9 Próżna St.) will host a concert entitled Karol Mikuli – Forgotten Student of Chopin, a Deserving Citizen of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, which will be held on April 13, 2016 at 7.00 pm.

Karol Mikuli studied piano under Fryderyk Chopin (later became his teaching assistant and editor of his works) and composition with Anton Reicha. For several years held a post of a director of the Lviv Conservatory. He toured widely as a concert pianist and composed mainly piano works.

During the concert, his Songs, Op. 16, 17 and 27, as well as Serenade in A flat major, Op. 22 for clarinet and piano will be presented by Gabriela Machowska-Kopietz (piano), Witold Żołądkiewicz (baritone) and Anna Gut (clarinet).

Admission free.

Polish Radio Choir and Ensemble Peregrina will open the cycle "Music Salon of the Polish Radio Choir at the Villa Decius" by performing a selection of psalms by Mikołaj Gomółka on April 10, 2016 in Krakow.

The cycle is a monthly meeting of artists and audiences, and the monographic concerts which will be accompanied by commentary from composers and/or performers. During the opening concert at the Renaissance villa, the Polish Radio Choir, Agnieszka Budzińska-Bennett (Gothic harp) and Marc Lewon (Renaissance guitar and lute) under the baton of Szymon Wyrzykowski will present a selection of psalms with 16th-century music by Mikołaj Gomółka and Polish texts by Jan Kochanowski. The programme has been prepared by Agnieszka Budzińska-Bennett - pianist, harpist, vocalist, musicologist and founder of Ensemble Peregrina specialising in early music.

The "Music Salon" will also introduce audiences to contemporary works, with future guests including Krzysztof Penderecki, Paweł Mykietyn, Przemysław Zych and Aleksander Kościów.
