Cracow | Virtuosos with Sinfonietta: Theodosia Ntokou and Sulamita Ślubowska

In 2023, the series ‘Stars with Sinfonietta’ returns with the power of two expressive artists who will perform solo parts on the 28th of February 28 at 19.30 at the Cracow Philharmonic in a concert combining romantic virtuosity with what is the most beautiful in Polish music of the 20th century.

The programme will include two works by Polish composers: Karol Szymanowski's Etude arranged for string orchestra by Agnieszka Duczmal, and Symphony for string orchestra by Grażyna Bacewicz, which draws on musical traditions in an intriguing way. The programme will be complemented by the virtuosic, early Romantic Double Concerto in D minor, written by fourteen-year-old Felix Mendelssohn-Bartoldy.

Warsaw | Bedřich Smetana. My Homeland – heart of the Czechia

The series of symphonic poems Má vlast (My Homeland) by Bedřich Smetana will be performed on the 26th of February, 2023 at 19.00 in the Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio of the Polish Radio by Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra conducted by Martyna Zych.

Each of the six poems refers to a selected place, an episode in the history of the Czech Republic and Czech legends, constituting an extraordinary musical expression of the composer's ardent patriotism. The compositions delight with beauty of the melody, colorful orchestration and suggestive illustrativeness.

Conductor Martyna Zych, who is also a violist of Sinfonia Iuventus, specializes in Czech music.

Gdańsk | Weinberg.Epitafium.XXVII

The Department of Vocal Studies at the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk and the o.to.ja Foundation invite you on the 25th of February, 2023 at 17.00 to a multimedia concert, which will take place on the 27th anniversary of Mieczysław Weinberg's death and the 366th day of the war in Ukraine. Free entrance!

Bass Tomasz Raff and accompanying trumpeter Emil Miszk and pianist Monika Kolasińska will perform Wajnberg's songs to words by, among others, Leopold Staff, Julian Tuwim, in which the dramatic contemporary world is reflected. An important part of the project will be the participation of Zuzanna Grzegorowska, who will complete the whole message with video-art projections.

Warsaw | POLIN Music Festival 2023

On February 24-26, 2023, the POLIN Music Festival 2023 will take place at the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews. David Krakauer, Michael Guttman, Jing Zhao, Alexey Botvinov, the Silesian Quartet, Bastarda Trio and orchestras: Sinfonia Varsovia and the Polish Radio Orchestra in Warsaw will perform at the Festival.

Polish music will sound on the 25th and 26th of February. The second day of POLIN Music Festival will be an evening of album premieres. The Silesian Quartet, the second quartet in the history of phonography, recorded all 17 string quartets by Mieczysław Weinberg. This impressive seven-disc box, released by CD Accord, will have its concert premiere at the POLIN Music Festival. The second premiere box of the evening will be the three-disc release ‘Nizozot’ by the Bastarda trio (published by Audiocave).

Cracow | Victims of the war in Ukraine in memoriam

FK 24.2.23Another week of daily work of the Cracow Philharmonic ensembles with Łukasz Borowicz, the institution's first Guest Conductor, will result in oratorio concerts on the 24th of February at 7.30 p.m. and on the 25th of February 25, 2023 at 18.00. The dates of the events are the anniversary of the days when a year ago the world was informed about the tragic events in Ukraine, which is why these concerts were dedicated to the memory of the victims on the first anniversary of the outbreak of the war. The culmination of the programme will be the world premiere of the original version of Roman Palester's Fifth Psalm.

The programme opens with Prelude and Death Scene of Isolde from Richard Wagner's musical drama.

The second in the programme will be Psalm No. 5 by Roman Palester to the words of the Baroque poet Wespazjan Kochowski, with the solo part of the baritone Mariusz Godlewski.

The concert will close Francis Poulenc's Stabat Mater.

Zielona Góra | Solidarity with Ukraine

Thanks to the orchestra parts preserved in the Warsaw Music Society, it was possible to reconstruct the score of the Piano Concerto in E minor, Op. 11 by Fryderyk Chopin, orchestrated by Adam Münchheimer. For the first time after more than 130 years, a version of Chopin's masterpiece unknown to the contemporary listener will be performed by the Tadeusz Baird and Tymoteusz Bies Zielona Góra Philharmonic Orchestra on the 24th of February, 2023 at 19.00. During the concert ‘Solidarity with Ukraine’ the orchestra conducted by Rafał Kłoczko will also perform works by Lew Rewucki and Ludomir Różycki.

Chopin's Concerto in E minor in Münchheimer's instrumentation was first performed at the concert inaugurating the summer music festival in Warsaw's Swiss Valley in 1892. The solo part was performed by Aleksander Michałowski – an outstanding Polish pianist, an excellent interpreter of Chopin's music. The version of Chopin's Concerto, enthusiastically received by the audience and critics, was performed several times with the participation of the pianist.

Warsaw | Opening of the Hashtag Lab Contemporary Music Space!

On the 24th of February, 2023, the opening of the Contemporary Music Space Hashtag Lab will take place - the first and only permanent stage for new music in Poland. The Hashtag Ensemble and the Sphere of Harmony Foundation invite you  to visit its premises at 29 Barska Street on February 24-25, where concerts, meetings with artists led by Ewa Szczecińska, the opening of the mural and the premiere of the interactive installation will take place. Admission to all events is free!

For the next 4 years at Hashtag Lab - a social cultural institution of the capital city of Warsaw - there will be concerts, educational workshops, classes for children and master classes.

The programme of the first project in the new space includes the premiere of the interactive installation #NetworkMusic of Wojciech Błażejczyk. Anyone willing can hear the address of their own website converted into sounds in the #NetworkMusic installation. We will also hear a Venetian video-opera on the patio with music by Salvatore Sciarrino, dj set by Rafał Ryterski (Poland) and Vład Błyzniuk (Ukraine). Wrocław | Fantasy and romances

Concert of bassoonist Prof. Katarzyna Zdybel-Nam - accompanied by pianist Szczepan Kończal - will be an excellent opportunity to listen to the bassoon repertoire created mainly in the 19th and 20th centuries, and the premiere of compositions for bassoon by Paweł Mykietyn.

Minimalist, virtuosic and requiring great precision Mykietyn's work was commissioned and dedicated to Katarzyna Zdybel-Nam. This evening we will also hear the Sonata for bassoon and piano by the Polish composer Juliusz Łuciuk, who died less than two years ago.

In addition, the programme includes works by Roger Boutry, Robert Schumann, Georg Philipp Telemann and François Devienne.

Warsaw | Radzimir Dębski Hommage Krzysztof Penderecki

Radzimir Dębski will share with the Warsaw audience the effects of a unique symphonic project created together with the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic Orchestra in tribute to Master Krzysztof Penderecki. On the 20th of February, 2023 at 17.30 and 20.00 at the Grand Theatre - Polish National Opera, a concert will take place as part of the Hommage Krzysztof Penderecki series.

Krzysztof Penderecki's works will be performed by the orchestra conducted by Maciej Tworek, the Master's assistant for many years. In turn, works by Radzimir Dębski will be conducted by the composer himself. It is worth noting that the Threnody of the Warsaw Ghetto and Hommage, composed especially for this occasion, will have their Warsaw premieres.

The concerts will also take place on the 29th of March in Wrocław, on the third anniversary of the Professor's death, and on the 1st of April at the Krzysztof Penderecki European Center for Music in Lusławice, which is the partner of the concerts.
