"Stay at home, don't leave the theatre": Holzwege

Sikorski

The online premiere of Holzwege will be held on 18 April 2020 as part of the "Stay at home, don't leave the theater" campaign of TR Warzawa. The extraordinary performance directed by Katarzyna Kalwat tells the story of composer Tomasz Sikorski and features his longtime friend, outstanding composer and pianist Zygmunt Krauze.

Holzwege (German for getting lost) is the title of a work by Tomasz Sikorski, one of the most interesting composers of the second half of the 20th century. The production by the same name, based on Marta Sokołowska’s play, is an attempt to understand the Sikorski’s work and life, which came to a premature end with his mysterious death. Holzwege is a combination of a theatre play and a concert. Alongside the TR Warszawa actors Jan Dravnel, Sandra Korzeniak and Tomasz Tyndyk, the eminent composer Zygmunt Krauze, a friend of Sikorski’s, also participates. The actors and musicians call upon the works of the avant-garde composer, documentary materials and literary fiction to pay tribute to him. During the show, we will hear Tomasz Sikorski’s works Absent-minded Window Gazing, Sonant, Hymnos and Echoes II performed live.

The broadcast will be held on TR Warszawa's Facebook profile and on Vimeo (with PL and ENG subtitles) on 18 April at 7 p.m. The performance will be available only once, which is why the artists encourage you to spend this evening with TR Warszawa. Afterwards, at 9.15 p.m., there will be a live meeting via Facebook with the actors and creators of the performance: Zygmunt Krauze, Katarzyna Kalwat, Marta Sokołowska, Sandra Korzeniak, Jan Dravnel, Tomasz Tyndyk and Anna Tomczyńska.

A concert in memory of Krzysztof Penderecki at the Poznań Philharmonic

FP

The Poznań Philharmonic invites you to another online concert on 17 April 2020 at 7.00 p.m. This time the hero of the evening will be the recently deceased Krzysztof Penderecki. The concert entitled "The Master's Birthday" under the baton of the Maestro will be broadcast online.

Music lovers will have a chance to watch a recording of the concert performed by the Poznań Philharmonic Orchestra and soloists – Fumiaki Miura (violin) and Julian Rachlin (viola), which took place on 23 November 2012 in the Poznań University Hall. It was broadcast by the Polish Radio Programme 2, which made this recording available to the next online concert of the Poznań Philharmonic.

The Poznań concert from almost eight years ago was unique for many reasons, although two were of particular importance. On 23 November 2012 Krzysztof Penderecki was celebrating his 79th birthday (hence the title of the evening). The composer suggested that the first Polish performance of his latest symphonic work – Double Concerto for violin, viola and orchestra should take place in Poznań a month after the world premiere in the Golden Hall of Musikverein in Vienna. In the capital of Austria, this piece was conducted by Mariss Jansons, and in Poznań – by the composer himself (in both performances the viola was played by Julian Rachlin, to whom the work was dedicated). In the second part of the concert Krzysztof Penderecki led one of his favorite symphonies – Symphony No. 7 in A major, Op. 92 by Ludwig van Beethoven.

Organ Week at the Łódź Philharmonic

FŁ

The Artur Rubinstein Philharmonic in Łódź invites you to the organ week, which will take place online on 15-19 April 2020.

It will be a chance to watch fragments of the concert "A quatre mains", which took place at the Łódź Philharmonic on 26 January this year. During this carnival concert, Krzysztof Urbaniak & Łukasz Mosur organ duo presented original compositions for two organs, including their own work Sound of the Future, as well as transcriptions of orchestral and piano works, among others Le mal du pays from the collection of dances and melodies A travers Pologne by Juliusz Zarębski, and Maurycy Moszkowski's paraphrase of the famous Farewell to the Fatherland polonaise by Michał Kleofas Ogiński.

In addition, the Łódź Philharmonic will share film materials from its archive presenting the unique organs intalled at the Philharmonic. Their uniqueness lies primarily in the fact that in one concert hall there are two independent instruments: baroque and romantic organs, which can be used both separately and together. The Łódź philharmonic concert hall is the only one of its kind in the world, it is also the only secular concert hall in Europe that has a baroque instrument – adapted to cooperate with early music ensembles.

The organ week will end on Sunday at 9.00 p.m. with the performance of the first part of Mozart's Symphony in G minor KV 550 by Krzysztof Urbaniak & Łukasz Mosur organ duo.

Mikołaj Laskowski's "Sound Isolation" – Online Premiere

Laskowski

Mikołaj Laskowski, composer specializing in chamber instrumental and electronic music, invites you to the online premiere of his composition Sound isolation.

Mikołaj Laskowski graduated with honours from the Royal Conservatory in the Hague under the supervision of Yannis Kyriakides and Peter Adriaansz; he also studied at the Wrocław Academy of Music in the composition class of Grażyna Pstrokońska-Nawratil. He won the 3rd prize in the International Generace Competition (Ostrava) and received an award at Young Composers Meeting 2013 (Apeldoorn). In 2015 his work Tiger left me unsatisfied received a recommendation at the 62nd International Rostrum of Composers.

In an interview with Filip Lech, the composer described his latest composition in such words: "Deep Relaxation vol. 6: Sound Isolation is a sound video guide, it can be performed by anyone at home. The composition is based on sounds that are only heard by the person performing and listening to this work. The listener / performer should prepare earphones, connect them to the computer, sit back and follow the instructions on the video. The traditional relationship between the composer and listener has been deconstructed; the listener becomes a performer, but he or she can also be a composer to some extent – the work leaves some room for improvisation and own discoveries. The composition allows you to focus on the body and hearing, which is often not possible in a live concert situation. In the end, at least I hope so, it will create a small feeling of community. "
