11th National Competition on the Life and Work of Polish Composers of the 20th and 21st Centuries: Grażyna Pstrokońska-Nawratil

To popularize the work of Grażyna Pstrokońska-Nawratil, the Art Education Centre and the State Music School of Primary and Secondary Education in Konin are organizing a competition on the life and work of this world-renowned Polish composer. The competition will take place on May 19, 2025, at the State Music School of Primary and Secondary Education in Konin and is aimed at students of first and second-degree music schools. The deadline for registration is April 15.

The aim of the competition is also to inspire young artists to engage in performing and listening to contemporary music, as well as to provide a platform for students from various music schools across Poland to showcase their achievements and knowledge.

The special guest of the event will be the competition’s main protagonist, who will meet with the participants.

On the same day at 5:00 PM, a concert featuring her music will be performed by the phenomenal virtuosos: Łukasz Długosz, Agata Kielar-Długosz, and Andrzej Jungiewicz. The program will also include the *Polish Suite* by Witold Friemann, a composer who, like Pstrokońska-Nawratil, had strong ties to Konin – it was here that both spent part of their lives and drew inspiration for their work.

Previous editions of the competition have focused on composers such as Witold Lutosławski, Andrzej Panufnik, Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, Wojciech Kilar, Krzysztof Penderecki, Tadeusz Baird, Grażyna Bacewicz, Kazimierz Serocki, Witold Szalonka, and Dariusz Przybylski.

The event is partnered with the Polish Music Publishing House, and the patronage has been granted by the Marshal’s Office of Poznań and the music bookstore alenuty.pl.

Media patronage: Polish Music Information Centre POLMIC.
