The final concert of the 12th International Henryk Mikołaj Górecki Days "Refrain" will not only summarize the entire festival but also highlight its open form. On December 6, 2024, at 7:00 PM, the Silesian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Maciej Tworek, will premiere the Second Symphony by Marcel Chyrzyński: Symphony of Images.
The inspiration for this work, created as part of the "Composer Commissions" program, was the art of Jerzy Nowosielski. The four movements of the symphony refer to four paintings by the world-renowned Polish artist: Monografia nieznajomej, Pływaczka, Kobiety nad morzem, and Dziewczyny na statku. The kaleidoscopic colors of the orchestra's sound reflect the characteristic style of the painter: the use of flat arrangements of colorful patches outlined by clear contour lines.
The soloist will be Martín García García, a Spanish pianist and laureate of numerous prestigious piano competitions, and the winner of third place at the 18th International Frederyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw. He will perform Chopin's Piano Concerto in E minor, Op. 11.
As tradition dictates, the concert will begin with an overture—this time it will be Die schöne Melusine by Mendelssohn.
The event is co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund, within the "Music" program, implemented by the National Institute of Music and Dance.
