18th “Silesian Summer Music Festival”

- | 03 August 2025

The 18th edition of the “Silesian Summer Music Festival” will take place from 3 to 14 August 2025 in Opole, Głogówek, Brzeg, and Sulisław. Over the course of six concerts, the festival will present chamber and piano repertoire, featuring both well-known and lesser-known works — from early Classicism to the 20th century. Admission to all concerts is free.

This year’s festival welcomes outstanding artists specializing in performance on both modern and historical instruments, including faculty members of the 35th International Music Course in Opole.

The concert on 5 August at the Józef Elsner Philharmonic in Opole will also serve as the official opening of the International Music Course. On 6 August, at the Municipal Cultural Centre in Głogówek, a group of young violin virtuosos — laureates of the “Young Ludwig” Competition — will perform Fantasie brillante sur le thème de Faust, Op. 20 by Henryk Wieniawski, Nocturne and Tarantella, Op. 28 by Karol Szymanowski, as well as works by Igor Stravinsky, Jean Sibelius, and César Franck.

Polish 19th-century music will be featured in the recital programs of Tomas Ritter and the Ravel Piano Duo. The festival will conclude with a special concert devoted to Józef Elsner, held at Sulisław Palace — near Grodków, the composer’s birthplace.

The Silesian Summer Music Festival has been held since 2007 in the Opole region. To this day, it remains the only classical music event of its kind organized in the area during the summer months.
