4th National Elżbieta Chojnacka Harpsichord Competition

The 4th National Elżbieta Chojnacka Harpsichord Competition will take place on May 29-30, 2026 at the Fryderyk Chopin State Music School in Bytom. The deadline for submitting applications is May 4.

The objective of the Competition is to cherish the memory of the world-renowned Polish harpsichordist, Elżbieta Chojnacka, and to promote harpsichord music of the 20th and 21st centuries, with a particular emphasis on the works of Polish composers (a mandatory repertoire item).

The event is addressed to students of primary and secondary music schools. The one-stage auditions will be held in four groups. Laureates will be honored with diplomas, as well as material and financial prizes. All participants will receive certificates of participation.

The program will be enriched by a lecture by Prof. Maria Banaszkiewicz-Bryła, PhD, entitledThe Harpsichord in the Works of Darius Milhaud, as well as accompanying meetings.

Winning participants are required to perform in the Laureates' Concert, which will take place at the concert hall of the Fryderyk Chopin State Music School in Bytom at 17 Moniuszki Street. A special prize from the Sleńdziński Gallery in Białystok will also be awarded - a performance at the Gallery on Julitta Sleńdzińska’s harpsichord, on a date to be determined with the organizers.

The competition is organized by the Centre for Artistic Education in Warsaw, and co-organized by the Fryderyk Chopin State Music School in Bytom.

Partners of the event: Elżbieta Chojnacka Center for Contemporary Harpsichord Music, the Marian Sawa Society and the Sledziński Gallery in Białystok.
