On 20–21 March 2026, the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk will host the 50th anniversary celebration of its accordion class—an event marking half a century of educational, artistic, and scholarly activity at one of the most important centres for accordion education in Poland. Admission to all events is free.
The celebration will provide an opportunity for generations of teachers, alumni, and students to meet and reflect on the shared history and achievements that have shaped the reputation of the Gdańsk accordion school. The jubilee programme will include concerts, lectures, a jubilee conference, and an exhibition.
The concerts will highlight the instrument’s diverse sonic possibilities as well as the artistic achievements of the accordion community connected with the Academy. Distinguished artists associated with the Gdańsk academy will perform, presenting a wide spectrum of accordion repertoire—from classical music to contemporary works.
A lecture devoted to the ergonomics of performance and the prevention of musculoskeletal strain among accordionists will also be held.
Another important element of the celebration will be the jubilee academic conference, during which invited speakers will reflect on the history and development of the accordion class, as well as on contemporary directions in accordion interpretation and education.
The jubilee is not only an opportunity for reflection and celebration but also a moment to emphasise Gdańsk’s important position on the European accordion map. Fifty years of the accordion class represent a history of numerous artistic, competition, and pedagogical successes that contribute to the achievements of the Academy of Music in Gdańsk and the broader accordion community in Poland.
