The Silesian Opera invites you to participate in the 5th Adam Didur International Opera Vocal Competition. The total prize pool of this year's edition is over EUR 40,000. The event is addressed to singers of all nationalities, born no earlier than October 7, 1992. A new deadline for submitting applications is August 14, 2024.
This year's edition of the Competition is unique. It will refer to the 150th anniversary of the birth of the Competition patron, the 45th anniversary of the first national edition of the Competition and the 20th anniversary of the first international edition. Participants will have to face an extensive repertoire and a vocal and acting task, which is to perform an aria in a costume with a stage play. During the 5th Competition, additional prizes will be awarded, funded by directors of Polish opera theaters.
The inauguration of the Competition will take place on October 6 at 6:00 p.m., and the competition will start a day later. The Laureates' Concert is scheduled for October 13 at the Silesian Opera, and its repetition will take place on October 15 at the Stanisław Wyspiański Theatre in Katowice.
The artistic director and member of the jury of the anniversary edition is the world-famous baritone and soloist of the Silesian Opera - Andrzej Dobber. The jury includes: singer Ewa Biegas - Dean of the Vocal and Acting Faculty of the Academy of Music in Katowice, Hannah Blum - casting advisor to the artistic director of the Dresden Opera, Alan Green - director of the New York Artistic Agency Zemsky Green Artist Management, Prof. Izabela Kłosińska - casting director at the Grand Theater - National Opera, conductor Patrick Lange, Vasyl Vovkun - general and artistic director of the Lviv National Opera. The Honorary Committee includes: the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, the Silesian Voivode, the Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship, the Mayor of Katowice and the Mayor of Bytom, as well as the directors of Polish opera theaters.
The competition is co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the Marshal's Office of the Silesian Voivodeship, with the support of the Mayor of Katowice and the Mayor of Bytom.
