5th Young Music Festival in Toruń
The fifth edition of the Young Music Festival will once again promote Polish contemporary music, focusing on the presentation of young composers and artists associated with the Kuyavian-Pomeranian region, as well as on preserving the memory of cultural figures from Toruń. Between 12 and 21 September 2025, the festival will feature primarily new, classical, folk, electroacoustic, and jazz music. The main themes will be Kashubian culture and astronomy, in connection with the Year of Wilhelmina Iwanowska. Admission is free!
The events, organized by the Pomeranian Music Society, will result from cooperation with artists and composers from other musical centers in Poland. In addition to concerts, there will be a meeting with Poznań-based composer Ewa Fabiańska-Jelińska, a performance by the folk band Modraki, performances by the winners of the Young Talent Competition, two lectures, and a theatrical performance.
Soloists, chamber ensembles, folk song and dance groups, two orchestras, and a choir will perform. The festival will be inaugurated by the outstanding Amadeus Polish Radio Chamber Orchestra conducted by Anna Duczmal-Mróz, while the final concert will be performed by the Zielona Góra Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Rafał Kłoczko, a conductor from Toruń.
Composers, in their new works, will take inspiration from Kashubian folk music and astronomy – the program will feature special world premieres of compositions commissioned by the Pomeranian Music Society for this year’s Festival:
Uwertura Kaszubska by Adam Falenta,
Burczykiel i piekielnica by Michał Ossowski,

The program will also include works by Jan Michał Wieczorek and Łukasz Kamieński, both strongly connected with Kashubian music.
During two traditional in memoriam concerts, we will commemorate outstanding artists associated with this region: the eminent pianist Jerzy Godziszewski and the composer Michał Zieliński, who passed away one year ago.
Accompanying events will include the exhibition "Astrowomen” by Hanna Wroniszewska (12–21 September 2025, Artus Court Cultural Center); the 3rd Young Talent Competition at the K. Szymanowski Music School Complex; electroacoustic workshops led by Dr. Mateusz Ryczek; and the walking tour "Kashubians in Toruń" guided by Hanna Giełdon-Szramowska (20 September 2025, 1:00 PM, meeting point: Nicolaus Copernicus Monument).
