87th Musica Moderna Festival

Information about the event | Łódź | 13 April 2026

The program of the 87th Musica Moderna Festival, taking place from April 13 to May 7, 2026, will be dominated by works of composers associated with the Academy of Music in Łódź. This includes, traditionally for the festival’s spring edition, students presenting their graduation concerts. Furthermore, the cross-university collaboration between students of the Academy of Music and the Academy of Fine Arts—a partner of this year’s Festival—will continue. The event is organized by the Department of Composition at the Academy of Music in Łódź and the Łódź branch of the Polish Composers’ Union.

Musica Moderna consistently provides an excellent opportunity to identify the aesthetic trends present in contemporary Polish music. The festival’s opening event, "Musical Evening" (April 13), will feature chamber works by artists who shape the Łódź composition community: Sławomir Kaczorowski, Krzysztof Grzeszczak, Olga Hans, Maciej Kabza, Marek Kunicki, Jacek Partyka, Jolanta Smolska, Marcin Stańczyk, Tomasz Szczepanik, Maciej Walczak, and Artur Zagajewski.

Michał Kawecki, an alumnus of the Academy and a guest of the festival, will host student workshops focused on documentary composition, vocal improvisation, and electronics (April 15). Some of the techniques and solutions discussed during the workshop will also be showcased on stage—at Kawecki’s evening monographic concert, the artist will perform piano and electronic parts alongside singer Adaya Peled.

The ideas and interests of the aspiring Łódź-based composers will be showcased through the festival’s recurring highlights—the "Young Composers' Concert" on April 14, and an experimental performance by the Electronic Music Computer Studio (April 16), featuring audio-visual and performative elements. On the same day, the audience will witness "Correspondence of the Arts"—works co-created by composition students from the class of Prof. Marcin Stańczyk (including, this year, students of Prof. Sławomir Kaczorowski) and students from the Academy of Fine Arts from the Studio of Composition Foundations within the New Media department, led by Łukasz Leszczyński, PhD. A second part of the concert, featuring a different program, will take place on May 7 in the Auditorium of the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź.
