The 8th International Scientific Conference "Musical Work Analysis: Historia–Theoria–Praxis", which serves as an international forum for the exchange of ideas and perspectives on diverse methods of discourse about music, will take place on December 1–2, 2025, at the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław.
The aim of the conference is to deepen knowledge, confront different viewpoints, and share experiences in the field of music analysis and interpretation from historical, theoretical, and practical perspectives. This goal is achieved through the participation of outstanding specialists from around the world. The 8th edition will feature scholars from European countries—Austria, Finland, Spain, Germany, Poland, Hungary, and the United Kingdom—as well as from the United States and Brazil.
During eight thematic sessions, various methods and research perspectives will be presented, and issues related to meaning and significance in music will be discussed. Particular attention will be paid to the broad application of analysis, including exploration of issues such as time, sound, style, and compositional technique. The subject of discussion will not only be the musical work understood as an opus perfectum et absolutum in the form of a written score, but also the polyversity of the work. Performance-related issues and the relationships between the composer, performer, and listener will also be examined.
Both traditional tools and modern technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), will be employed. The research material will include not only early and contemporary art music but also folk and popular music.
The artistic component of the conference will be a concert featuring works by contemporary composers from the Wrocław music community, created using both traditional and modern techniques. The pieces will be performed by the faculty and students of the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław.
