On November 9, 2024, at 7:30 PM, the American premiere of the project “Dracula Live in Concert with Chicago Philharmonic” will take place at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago. The event will be preceded by a discussion featuring LaRob K. Rafael, Professor Beata Bolesławska-Lewandowska, Dr. AE Stevenson, Magdalena Miśki-Jackowska, and Aleksander Dębicz.
The music of Wojciech Kilar for Francis Ford Coppola's Oscar-winning film Dracula, which received three Academy Awards, is not merely a soundtrack but a cantata for choir and orchestra, completely different from anything heard before in Hollywood films. Truly theatrical, his music, performed live to the film which will be shown in HD on a large screen above the orchestra, promises to be an unforgettable experience.
Kilar's work will be performed by the Chicago Philharmonic and Chicago Chamber Choir, conducted by Diego Navarro. Soloists will include Cheryl Wilson, Victoria Schemenauer, and Elena Hensel.
The pre-concert discussion, titled "Wojciech Kilar, Celebrating Polish Master Composer" will focus on the impact of Polish classical music on film. It will be complemented by a photography exhibition by Bartek Barczyk, featuring portraits of Kilar.
The event is co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Chicago.
