Carnival Concert of Sinfonia Iuventus

The Carnival Concert of the Jerzy Semkow Polish Symphony Orchestra Sinfonia Iuventus, will be conducted by the young flutist Stathis Karapanos from Athens, who is well-known on international stages and is also active as a conductor. The concert will take place on January 18, 2025, at 7:00 PM at the Witold Lutosławski Concert Studio of the Polish Radio in Warsaw. The program will be dominated by the music of warm coastal countries – Italy and Greece.

Stathis Karapanos, a renowned soloist and chamber musician, will perform during the concert in two roles: as a soloist, he will present a suite of Mikis Theodorakis' music from the film “Zorba the Greek” for flute and orchestra. This is a new arrangement of Theodorakis' music for the legendary film, created by Karapanos (and at his initiative) together with Achilleas Wastor.

The first piece of the evening will be the Overture to the opera “William Tell” – the last opera by Gioachino Rossini, one of the most beloved symphonic miniatures. Rossini’s playful piano cycle Péchés de vieillesse* (The Sins of Old Age) served as the basis for the ballet La Boutique fantasque, and the ballet music was arranged into a suite by the Italian composer Ottorino Respighi. This fascinating concert suite will conclude the beautiful and joyful Carnival Concert.
