Hanna Dys’s organ recital at the National Forum of Music on December 18, 2024, at 7:00 PM will offer a journey through the music of composers from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The evening will feature works by both Polish and international composers.
The concert will begin with pieces by Mieczysław Surzyński. Hanna Dys will perform two movements from the Improvisations Op. 36 by Surzyński: the lively and highly melodic Capriccio, and the lyrically expressive Chant de Noël, in which Surzyński incorporates the sounds of the old Polish Christmas carol Gdy się Chrystus rodzi.
These will be followed by a fantasy by Feliks Nowowiejski, Boże Narodzenie w prastarym kościele Mariackim w Krakowie (Christmas in the ancient St. Mary's Church in Cracow), which is based on the well-known theme from the carol Wśród nocnej ciszy (Silent Night). The Polish part of the program will also include an organ arrangement of Karol Szymanowski’s Étude in B-flat minor Op. 4 No. 3.
The program will also feature works by Edvard Grieg and selected movements from Gustav Holst’s legendary suite The Planets Op. 32, in an organ arrangement.
