POLMICThe Polish National Competition ‘20 Looks on Karol Szymanowski’ organized on the 140th birthday and 85th anniversary of the artist's death, will be held on the 21st of May, 2022 in Cracow. A record number of 64 students of secondary music schools from 10 voivodeships has been registered.

"20 gazes on ..." is planned as a nationwide series of knowledge competitions about the life and work of a selected composer, whose jubilee (birth or death anniversary) falls in a given year. The series with this attractive formula aims to, among others, accustom students to the music of the 20th century – most of the series were devoted to composers of this century. The aim of the event is to popularize knowledge about the life and work of one of the most important composer of the last century in Poland and Europe, perfectly combining modern European musical language with Polish folk tradition. The organizers of the Competition are the Center for Artistic Education and the Archdiocesan Secondary Music School of Fr. card. F. Macharski in Cracow. The President of the Republic of Poland holds the honorary patronage of the event.

The competition is divided in two stages: the first - written, and the second - oral. In each stage, the participant's task will be to identify musical examples and answer a set of questions concerning the composer's life, work and thoughts. The members of the competition jury will include: prof. dr hab. Wiesław Delimat (The Pontifical University of John Paul II, Head of ASM in Krakow – chairman), prof. dr hab. Stanisław Krawczyński (The Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Kraków), dr hab. Małgorzata Janicka-Słysz, prof. AMKP (The Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Krakow), prof. dr hab. Aleksandra Paszek-Trefon (The Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice) and Marek Dolewka, PhD (ASM in Krakow – Jury secretary, competition coordinator).

All participants of the competition will receive a diploma of participation and prizes. In addition, the finalists will be honored with cash prizes.

The partners of the competition – sponsors of the special awards – are: IDAGIO classical music streaming service, NOSPR, the Arkana Melomana portal and the Ósemkowa.pl shop.
